Karan Johar rejected OMG 2, but Amit Rai’s film got Akshay Kumar backing
Amit Rai expressed gratitude to Akshay Kumar stating that the film wouldn’t have been made without him and he is the reason it is still standing strong.

The satirical comedy-drama helmed by Amit Rai starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam entered the 100 Crore Club globally on Wednesday. OMG 2 is the sequel of the original 2012 film, OMG starring Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Mithun Chakraborty which collected upto 81 crores. However, the sequel has now earned around as much as the first film did.
Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of Lord Shiva and Pankaj Tripathi as an ordinary father touched the hearts of the audience. In spite of the major clash with Gadar 2 and Rajnikanth’s Jailer, OMG 2 has luckily remained unaffected.
According to reports, Amit Rai recently revealed that he tried his best to make the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) understand that this film should get a U/A certificate and he is still doing that. He added that people from everywhere are demanding it and he doesn’t understand why the board isn’t issuing a U/A certificate.
Talking about the first reaction of the CBFC, he said that he can’t describe it in words but it can be figured out seeing the cuts that they have asked for. He requested the board for the benefit of the film but mostly for the teenagers and the public, to give the film a U/A certificate.
He also shared that for 10 years no one gave him work after his film Road to Sangam. He talked about the frustration of making a film after all this and then being told that he can’t show it. He questioned whether the board knows what they have to go through after the script is rejected by multiple producers. Karan Johar had rejected the script including Sony and Ashutosh Gowariker. Akshay Kumar was finally the one who courageously backed it.
Akshay Kumar was quite genuine and transparent about the script and said that it needed to be made into a film, said Amit Rai. He expressed gratitude to Akshay saying that the film wouldn’t have been made without him and he is the reason it is still standing strong.
