Besharam Rang: Amid Deepika Padukone’s saffron bikini row, old video of Smriti Irani donning saffron swimwear at Miss India 1998 goes viral

As the right wing outfits and BJP ministers continue to counfound Deepika Padukone on her saffron bikini in upcoming film Pathaan’s song Besharam Rang, an old video of Union Minister Smriti Irani has cropped up on Twitter showing her wearing a saffron swimwear.

The video has paved its way back from 1998, when Smriti Irani took part in the Miss India beauty pageant. The video was uploaded by Tinamool Congress leaders, resulting in an virtual exchange of dialogues.

Watch the viral video here:

In response to a tweet from the BJP’s Amit Malviya about the uproar surrounding Deepika Padukone’s orange bikini in one of the film’s songs, Trinamool Congress politician Riju Dutta shared a video of Ms Irani from the swimsuit phase of the competition.

The BJP MP Locket Chatterjee was offended by the remark and accused Dutta of misogyny.

Mamata Banerjee should be ashamed for choosing such sexist men to serve as the TMC’s national spokesperson. He has no regard for the decisions that women make in life. They dislike the rise of successful women. The increase in crimes against women is the result of males like him.

In response, the Trinamool Congress representative referred to the BJP officials who had backed the rapists of Bilkis Bano, a victim of the Gujarat riots in 2002, as “sanskari brahmins.”

The discussion took place as right-wing social media users attacked the Shah Rukh Khan movie Pathaan. This is the second such virulent campaign this year against a Muslim movie star after Aamir Khan’s “Laal Singh Chaddha” earlier.

Narottam Mishra, the BJP’s home minister for Madhya Pradesh, is one of many who has attacked the movie, claiming one of its songs exhibited a polluted mindset and threatening to prevent its release there.

Deepika Padukone’s orange dress in the song “Besharam Rang” (Shameless Color), which, according to its critics, resembles the saffron that is sacrosanct in Hinduism and is the primary colour of the BJP, is at the centre of the Pathaan film ban issue.

Many people have referenced Smriti Irani’s swimsuit video as an example of the hypocrisy of those who criticise Deepika Padukone’s bikini.

Recent years have witnessed an increase in campaigns against Shah Rukh Khan Khan and those of his colleagues who are not viewed as unabashed followers of the ruling party, endangering the country’s thriving film sector.

Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor are gearing up to mesmerize audiences with their forthcoming romantic comedy, Abir Gulaal, which is set to hit theaters on May 9. The teaser, recently unveiled, offers a glimpse into the story set against the charming backdrop of London. It narrates the tale of two individuals, each dealing with their own heartbreak, who serendipitously cross paths and embark on a journey of healing, ultimately discovering love in one another.

Khan, who recently returned to the screen with Barzakh, has expressed his sincere appreciation for the support and patience shown by his Indian fans during his time away from the limelight.

Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, known for her work in Chalti Rahe Zindagi, Abir Gulaal is produced by Indian Stories in collaboration with A Richer Lens and Aarjay Pictures. The film’s production team includes several notable industry figures, such as Vivek B. Agrawal, who has previously worked on acclaimed films like Queen and Udta Punjab, alongside Avantika Hari and Rakesh Sippy.

The journey of Fawad Khan in the Indian film industry has been marked by various challenges. In 2016, he found himself at the center of a controversy when the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association enforced a ban on Pakistani artists following the Uri attacks. Tensions escalated when the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena threatened to obstruct the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, leading to a public ultimatum for Pakistani artists to leave India.

Despite the tumultuous situation, the film ultimately received a clearance for release from the Central Board of Film Certification. In a recent development in October 2023, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition that sought to prohibit Pakistani performers in India.

Throughout his career, Khan has also starred in projects such as Khoobsurat (2014) and Kapoor & Sons (2016). He has expanded his portfolio with international roles, including appearances in Ms. Marvel (2022) and The Legend of Maula Jatt (2022), which became Pakistan’s highest-grossing film.

Vaani Kapoor, recognized for her role in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021), is also set to feature in Netflix’s upcoming Mandala Murders and the new Bollywood film Badtameez Gill. Abir Gulaal is poised to make its worldwide debut on May 9, and it promises to be an enchanting cinematic experience.

Sikandar worldwide box office collection Day 2: Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandanna’s film crosses Rs 100 crore mark

The initial response suggests that while it has reached this financial benchmark, the film’s future prospects remain uncertain.

Released just two days ago, on March 30, Sikandar is now showing in theatres across India and internationally. The action drama, featuring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, has received mixed-to-average responses domestically. However, it has successfully crossed the Rs 100 crore milestone at the global box office.

Directed by renowned Tamil filmmaker AR Murugadoss, Sikandar grossed Rs 92 crore within the first two days of its release worldwide. On the third day, the film has managed to exceed the significant Rs 100 crore threshold, marking an important milestone despite its lukewarm reception.

Despite crossing the Rs 100 crore mark, the overall performance of Sikandar has been lackluster, attributed largely to unfavorable reviews from audiences and critics alike. The initial response suggests that while it has reached this financial benchmark, the film’s future prospects remain uncertain.

At the trailer launch event for Sikandar, Salman Khan expressed his gratitude to fans for their continued support, which has historically helped his films reach the Rs 100 crore mark regardless of their quality.

The crucial question remains whether Sikandar can achieve the Rs 200 crore milestone worldwide throughout its theatrical run. The film’s ability to sustain its performance in the first week will significantly influence this outcome.

For context, Bajrangi Bhaijaan holds the title of Salman Khan’s highest-grossing film, with an impressive lifetime gross of Rs 867 crore internationally.

Sikandar is currently screening in cinemas near you. Have you secured your tickets for this Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna film yet? Share your thoughts in the comment section, and keep an eye on Pinkvilla for further updates.

This film serves as a sequel to his successful 2015 comedy, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. The new installment is directed by Anukalp Goswami, while the production is backed by the renowned duo Abbas-Mustan, who helmed the original film.

On his Instagram page, Kapil unveiled the poster for Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, where he appears in a groom attire, showcasing a mischievous expression. In Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, Kapil made his solo acting debut as a man entangled in a hilariously chaotic situation involving multiple wives who reside in the same building. The comedic tension heightens when his true love interest, Deepika, steps into the mix.
