Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat with his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 11 other officials died on Wednesday after the military helicopter Mi-17V5 got crashed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. His untimely death has left the whole country in shock. People express their grief over the sad news through social media platforms. The popular poet Kumar Vishwas also pays the last respect to General Rawat from his official Twitter handle.

In a series of Tweets, Kumar said, the country has lost a great warrior, an unequaled general, a reformist hero, and a visionary soldier of India. He further said, the last salute to the brave son of Maa Bharati, General Vipin Rawat, and his wife. My huge respect for all the co-travelers who have lost their lives in the flight, God give strength to all your family, he added in his tweet.

In another tweet, he said, this is the time for the whole country to be united and stay strong together because this crisis is unpredictable and challenging. He further said, as a powerful country, Indians always have overcome every crisis with the help of self-confidence and the power of solidarity, he asked people to hold each other’s hand firmly in these hard times.

Apart from Kumar, PM Narendra Modi also pays tribute to General Rawat through his official Twitter handle. He tweeted, Gen Bipin Rawat was an outstanding soldier. A true patriot, he greatly contributed to modernizing the armed forces and security apparatus. His insights and perspectives on strategic matters were exceptional. His passing away has saddened him deeply.

Union Home minister Amit Shah also expressed grief over the sad news. He tweeted, the country has lost the CDS, General Bipin Rawat Ji in a very tragic accident, who was one of the bravest soldiers, served the motherland with utmost devotion. His exemplary contributions & commitment cannot be put into words. I am deeply pained, Shah added in his tweet.

General Rawat died at the age of 63. He took charge as India’s first Chief of Defence Staff in January 2019. His position was set up with the aim of integrating the three services that include the Navy, the Army, and the Air Force.

Vijay’s remarks came as the ruling TVK stepped up its questions about how the case was handled during the previous DMK government. The party’s IT wing has alleged that the earlier investigation was weakened and questioned why a final report was filed.

The allegations have been rejected by the DMK. Stalin has said that no order was issued by the DMK government to protect anyone in the case and has called the allegations false and defamatory.

What did Vijay say about the Veeramani case?

Vijay questioned Stalin over the handling of the case and demanded an explanation from the former chief minister.

What has MK Stalin said?

The DMK president has further said that the focus should remain on securing justice for the affected girls rather than making political allegations.

Four women wrestlers have approached a Delhi court challenging the acquittal of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a sexual harassment case.

The wrestlers have also challenged the acquittal of co-accused Vinod Tomar. The matter is scheduled to be heard by a Special Judge at the Rouse Avenue Courts.

The appeal challenges the order passed by an Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate on August 3, 2026, when Brij Bhushan and Tomar were acquitted in the case.

Wrestlers challenge court’s reasoning

In their appeal, the wrestlers have argued that the acquittal order is legally unsustainable and that the evidence was not assessed appropriately.

They have also alleged that the order relied on assumptions about how victims of sexual assault and harassment were expected to behave instead of assessing the evidence and circumstances of the complainants.

The challenge seeks judicial scrutiny of the findings that resulted in the acquittal of Brij Bhushan and Tomar.

Brij Bhushan was acquitted in August

The Rouse Avenue court acquitted Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on August 3 in the sexual harassment case involving women wrestlers. The court’s decision followed consideration of the evidence and statements presented during the proceedings.

The case had emerged after several women wrestlers accused the former WFI chief of sexual harassment. The allegations had led to a major protest by wrestlers in 2023.

The latest appeal means the acquittal is now being challenged before a higher court.
