Covid-19: All you need to know about China’s subvariant BF.7
Various experts have said the reason for China’s Covid surge is contrary to India’s as China has been in complete lockdown which didn’t allow the population to reach herd immunity.

China’s subvariant BF.7 has raised an alarm among the people India and it was also reported that 4 cases of the Covid BF.7 strain which is has driven the Covid surge in China. The Ministry of Health, without wasting any time, promptly held a meeting in light of the Covid situation in other countries to set up surveillance and chalk out an action plan in case of a spike in the country.
It is reported that even though the situation in China is deteriorating, India won’t face a similar predicament as many experts are hopeful that BF.7 won’t make be a problem for India. One of the main reasons for this view by the experts is because all the BF.7 cases were reported back in July, September and November and there are no active BF.7 cases in the country at the moment.
The first thing about the BF.7 is that it is not a new variant, and rather a sublineage of the Omnicron variant BA.4. According to reports there are more than 10 variants of SARS-CoV-2 in India and BF.7 is the latest strain.
The Delta Variant which led to the 2nd Covid wave in India is still reported to be there, however, the strongest transmissibility attribute is believed to be in the Omnicoron variants. Various experts have said the reason for China’s Covid surge is contrary to India’s as China has been in complete lockdown which didn’t allow the population to reach herd immunity.
The experts also highlighted that the Chinese population who were vaccinated, got administered the Indigenously made vaccine rather than giving them a choice. It is also important to note that India has’t seen any spike in caseload despite having reported China’s BF.7 Subvariant cases.

Government’s Initiative
The Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, on Wednesday, chaired a high-level meeting to strategize a plan of action and increase surveillance and vigilance to track the Covid spread in the country. He has also advised the people to follow covid protocols which include wearing masks in crowded places, as well as getting the booster dose administered.
According to reports, The Union Health Minister had also planned to hold weekly meetings to review and analyze the Covid situation in India. Mandaviya in his tweet said that Covid was not over, however, he assured the people that he has directed all the concerned to be alert and instructed them to strengthen the surveillance.
He further assured that they are prepared to manage any situation.
Aside from this, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will be holding a high-level meeting to review the Covid-19 situation in the country this afternoon.

Protesting wrestlers meet Home Minister Amit Shah late on Sunday night, demand an impartial investigation
Shah reportedly told the wrestlers that the law remains the same for everyone and they should let the law operate on its own course.

India’s top wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshee Malikkh, Sangita Phogat, and Satyawart Kadian, who have been protesting against BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah late-night on Sunday.
Reports said, the meeting began at around 11 pm and lasted about 2 hours at Shah’s Delhi residence.
Reports claimed, wrestlers demanded an impartial investigation and a quick action against WFI chief Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment of female athletes, including a minor.
Shah reportedly told the wrestlers that the law remains the same for everyone and they should let the law operate on its own course.
The wrestlers have given an ultimatum to the Centre for taking action against Singh until June 9. Meeting with Shah is being seen as an impact of the wrestlers medal immersion act at the bank of Ganga in Haridwar.
The wrestlers, who allege that their protest against the wrestling federation chief has been largely ignored, had last month announced their decision to immerse their medals into the Ganga river in Haridwar.
They, however, temporarily withdrew their plan after the intervention of farmer leader and Bharat Kisan Union chief Naresh Tikait.
The protesting wrestlers were previously charged with rioting by the Delhi Police for breaking the law in a fit of rage while marching towards the new parliament, on the day of its inauguration, some protesters were also detained .
The Delhi Police, who shut the Jantar Mantar protest site to the wrestlers after the crackdown, said they would also not be allowed to hold a protest at India Gate.
The Delhi police has filed two FIRs against Singh. Of the two FIRs, one is based on the combined complaints of six adult wrestlers and a another is based on the complaint of the father of a minor wrestler.

Railway Board recommends CBI investigation into Odisha train accident, says Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw
Earlier in the day the Minister speaking to the reporters at the Crash site in Balasore informed that the root cause behind the accident has been identified and will soon be revealed.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday, has informed about the Railway Board’s recommendation of Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) probe into the tragic train accident in Odisha on June 2 claiming the lives of almost 300 people and more the 1000 injured.
Vaishnaw while speaking to the media at Bhubaneswar said, taking the administrative information into consideration, the Railway Board has been recommending the entire case to CBI for the probe into the matter.
Earlier in the day the Minister speaking to the reporters at the Crash site in Balasore informed that the root cause behind the accident has been identified and will soon be revealed.
Vaishnaw also had said that the enquiry into the matter has been completed by the Railway Commissioner and the report will be submitted soon.
Vaishnaw added that all the dead bodies were recovered from the crash site along with the completion of the rescue operations, the restoration work and the clearance of the wreckage is underway and will be completed by Wednesday morning to bring back a normalcy in the operation of trains.
On Friday evening, near the Bahanaga Railway station in Balasore district of Odisha, in a heart-wrenching turn of events, three trains collided that included two superfast express trains and one stationery train.
In the dreadful mishap, nearly 300 people were killed and more than 1000 people travelling in the train were injured.
Heart-breaking visuals of corpses being transported in trucks and tractors from the accident spot also surfaced.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Railway Minister Vaishnaw along other senior officials of the state and Central government visited ground-zero to take stock of the situation and the rescue operations.
The Centre and the state government have also announced compensation worth Rs 10 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively to the deceased’s family members.

In the wake of the horrific train accident in Balasore on Friday evening, Odisha Police today has appealed to social media users to not to circulate false statements regarding the train accident stating that many social media handles are giving communal colour to the tragic train accident, which is highly unfortunate.
Since the horrific accident took place, internet is flooded with crash site images and visuals along with information related to it. While, some information shared by the users appear to be true, some seem spreading news and some are appearing to be communally provoking, which is after the said decision has been taken by the Odisha Police.
On different social media platforms, people are sharing images of the spot where the train collided, claiming a white structure near the spot is a mosque alleging that the Muslim community is responsible for the accident.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the ISKCON temple in Bahanaga have accepted that the train accident happened on the tracks is near the temple and also confirmed that the ISKCON temple is visible close to the crash site.
In a shocking turn of events, a train accident on June 2 near Bahanaga railway station in Balasore district of Odisha killed nearly 300 people and more than 1000 inured.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today informed, all the dead bodies have been recovered and the injured have been rescued from the site and the restoration work is currently underway, expected to be end by Wednesday.
