Confident second string India look to seal T2OI series, Sri Lanka prays for special effort

T2OI series

Shikhar Dhawan-led India is set to lock horns against Sri Lanka in the second T20 International of 3-match series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday. India will come on the field to seal the T20I series like ODI series while the Sri Lanka would try to bounce back in the second game to defend the series.

Speculations were rounding on the web over the availability of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav for the second T20I as they will be leaving for England to join the Test squad. However, the BCCI is yet to give any official information about their departure.

In the absence of Shaw and Yadav, Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s T20I debut would be an alternate plan for team India rather than an out-of-form Manish Pandey. The team management will want Sanju Samson to translate his phenomenal talent into consistent performances and it will be last chance to impress the selectors.

An average of 13.75 across eight games with sufficient opportunity to bat at the top-order, Samson has failed to impress the selectors at a time when Indian cricket’s talent cupboard is overflowing with riches. Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul as wicketkeeping options in white-ball cricket has slightly performed better than Samson, though it is high time for Kerala man to justify the show of faith by the Indian cricket system.

The form of India’s only all rounder Hardik Pandya in terms of batting and bowling would be another worry for team India. His bowling has been steady but he is nowhere near what he used to be as a skiddy pacer before his back surgery.

The Indian spin attack put up a fantastic show in the first T20I where Yuzvendra Chahal was well-supported the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy who picked one wicket on his international debut. In fact, with more than 20 players supposed to be selected for the T20 World Cup in the UAE, both Chakravarthy and Chahal could be in the squad.

For Sri Lanka, the T20 series is a tougher test than the ODIs as the team has been witnessed lack of consistency in their batting order. The team is still struggling to find a face who can take the game away with consistent big hits.

Guwahati weather

The much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 encounter between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) has hit a weather hurdle. Scheduled to take place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, the toss for Match 13 has been officially delayed due to persistent rain in the city.

Rain intensifies at Barsapara Stadium

The Guwahati weather has taken a turn for the worse as heavy drizzle forced the groundstaff to keep the pitch and square under covers. While the rain had momentarily eased, allowing for a brief inspection, it returned shortly after, frustrating both fans and players. According to media reports, the probability of rain during match hours has surged to nearly 50%, a significant increase from earlier forecasts.

Cut-off time and over reductions

As the clock ticks, the pressure on the match officials increases. Overs were scheduled to start being reduced from 8:40 PM IST. For those hoping for at least a shortened game, the cut-off time for a minimum five-over-a-side contest has been established at 10:56 PM IST. The city remains under a weather alert, with cloud cover expected to be a major factor throughout the evening.

High-stakes encounter on hold

Rajasthan Royals enter this game with a perfect record, having won their first two matches of the season. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, are looking to bounce back after a mixed start. A key highlight of this match is the potential battle between 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and the experienced Jasprit Bumrah.

Historically, the two teams share a fierce rivalry, with Mumbai holding a slight edge with 16 wins compared to Rajasthan’s 14 in their 31 previous meetings.
