A sum of Rs 19.45 crore was spent on the construction of the Kundalahalli underpass by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The BBMP, however, blamed the water leakage to be the reason behind the road getting caved in.
Blaming that the road caved in after a leakage in a water pipeline, the BBMP officials said that there were no other issues and the hole was immediately filled so as to avoid traffic gridlocks. No accidents were reported due to the sinkhole, they added.
Sinkholes often crop up following rainfall or leakage in water pipelines or sewage below the road. The soil below the underpass got loosened due to BWSSB pipeline leakage, said the BBMP officials.
Reacting to the inefficacious construction work of BBMP, a twitter user said that BBMP inefficiency has reached such levels , they don’t really care for the political parties any more. He added that he does not believe that a political party can rein in BBMP. It has to be dismantled at all levels.
Another twitter user said, after so many complaints, media coverage, Civil society , opposition regarding 40% commission, no action was taken from ED/CBI. So the corruption has gone above and beyond.
Lashing out at the local leader, one twitter user asserted, the MLA in this area should be personally made to pay for the full rectification of this. And the same fine should be paid personally by the top 5 senior most BBMP members in this locality, he added.
