Recently, India achieved a milestone of vaccinating more than 1 crore of its citizens with the Covid vaccine- the fastest vaccination drive so far. Now, India is set to attain another achievement. Lakshadweep is likely to become the first Indian state/UT to complete Covid vaccination to its eligible population.
The Union Territory has vaccinated around 99.2 percent of its eligible citizens with both doses, including 55,144 shots as the first dose and 46,615 as the second dose.
According to the ministry, 78.7 percent of India’s adult population has received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccination. Among all the states and Union Territories, nine of the states and union territories have given the first dosage to all people over the age of 18.
According to the officials, the ministry appealed to numerous states and union territories urging them to prioritize providing the second dosage to people who have not been vaccinated with the second dose despite the fact that the required gap between the two doses has expired.
Uttar Pradesh is the first Indian state to administer the highest number of doses followed by Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. Sikkim has achieved 87.8%, Goa 79.7%, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands 72.2% of Covid vaccine,” the officials said.
The government has also initiated a month-long “Har Ghar Dastak” campaign for house-to-house Covid-19 inoculation of individuals who are yet to receive the first dose and those who are long due for the second dosage.
Meanwhile, India’s mass vaccination effort surpassed the 108 crore milestone on Saturday, with 108,18,66,715 shots administered.
