According to officials, the accused, Deepak Rathore, had been pressuring the victim, identified as Pooja, 22, for marriage from the past two years, however, she repeatedly turned him down and had even filed a complaint of harassment and molestation against him in 2020.

On Wednesday, Pooja, who worked in a restaurant, was on her way to her former employer’s place whom he had asked for money to pay the lawyer’s fees in a case involving Deepak’s mother.

However, on her way, Deepak arrived riding on a motorcycle and fatally shot her in the head in Basant Vihar colony area of the district. The jilted lover then left her lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the busy street and fled the scene, police said.

A senior police official said that Pooja, a resident of Rajod, was on her way to the restaurant where she worked when she was shot by Deepak.

Deepak had also filed a counter-complaint against Pooja and her mother of abetment of suicide wherein he alleged that his mother committed suicide by consuming poison as Pooja had refused to marry him and was supported by her mother.

The accused was shot in the leg as the cops returned fire and eventually arrested.

An official said that Deepak was taken to a government hospital for treatment before being lodged in jail.
