Maha Shivratri is one of the most important festivals in India, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is celebrated in the Phalguna or Maagha month. The day is celebrated with all festivities, and no celebration is complete without a platter of delectable cuisine.

Maha Shivratri, which translates to “The Great Night of Shiva,” is observed during the dark fortnight or Krishna Paksha on the 13th day or 14th night of the month, as it is believed that the misdeeds of a worshipper who observes the day with absolute integrity and dedication are dissolved and he/she achieves moksha.

Lord Shiva is said to have spent most of his time in profound meditation and Bhang, a cannabis-infused Indian cooler, benefited him in staying in a state of joy and focus. It’s a cannabis-based dish made from hemp leaves that originated in the Indian subcontinent. People usually associate Bhang with Holi and a form of offering given to Lord Shiva or Shankar.

Here are some of the Bhang recipes you can try this Shivratri:

Bhang Thandai

  • Put 1/2 litre of water and sugar into a pan. Wait 2 hours for it to soak.
  • Soak all of the other dry ingredients in 2 cups of water for at least 2 hours in a separate bowl. Grind these soaking materials into a fine paste after 2 hours.
  • Mix the remaining water into the paste and strain the liquid into a vessel using a strong muslin strainer until the residue is dry.
  • Add the milk and sugar syrup to the strained mixture.
  • Add the cardamom powder to the milk.
  • Refrigerate it for 2 to 3 hours before serving.
  • Serve it chilled with a sprinkle of chopped almonds.

2. Bhang Pakode

  • Put spinach leaves in a mixing bowl after washing and shredding them.
  • Mix in the remaining ingredients thoroughly. Sprinkle water with hand.
  • Using your hands, coat the spinach leaves in gram flour until they are completely covered.
  • Heat the oil in a pan.
  • Shape into a ball and deep-fried till golden brown, then top with chat masala.
  • Serve hot with mint chutney on the side.

3. Bhang Chocolate

  • Add water to your double broiler over high heat.
  • Turn down the heat once the water has reached a boil.
  • Stir for 30 seconds after adding two cups of chocolate.
  • Stir in the remaining 2 cups of chocolates until the mixture seems to be almost lump-free.
  • Stir in the cannabutter until it is completely melted.
  • Put your melted cannabutter into your candy molds.
  • Keep the chocolates refrigerated until they’ve hardened.
  • Take the chocolates out of the moulds when they’re ready.
  • Store in air-tight container in your refrigerator.
