Rae Bareli schoolgirl sweeps floor in school, social media furious at child labour
The photograph is said to be from a government school in Janeva Katra village (Rae Bareli). Children don’t go to schools to sweep the classroom floor instead learn about the world through the syllabus. It is but obvious that the school staffer who had the girl sweep the floor is due for some harsh words and some punishment.

With voters in Karnataka turning away from the BJP in the recent Assembly elections, the apathy shown in schools can snowball into a challenge for the Uttar Pradesh government. In the most recent incident, a schoolgirl from Rae Bareli was seen sweeping the floor in a school instead of studying.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much-vaunted Beti Padhao Beti Bachao scheme has often been ridiculed for the lax implementation of such lofty schemes on the ground in a state that has not turned away from its feudal, casteist past. The double-engine sarkar’s achievements are thus slighted by such incidents. As a result, the photo has gone viral on Twitter.
On social media, there is a free-for-all in responses and comments to the picture. One user said such a condition will always remain until and unless someone has the courage to raise their voices against the authorities concerned. Another person commented that such an issue should be raised in the gram panchayat since non-availability of cleaning staff is a local issue. Another man suggested that the school teacher or master teaching in the school should let their own children be taught in the same school so that conditions improve.
Although the government is riding high on the success of Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao, the image tells a different story altogether. Instead of books, these children are being handed over brooms and set to work.
Recently, another video had surfaced online showing a girl student sweeping the floor in school uniform.
