Amidst forthcoming meeting of Kulbhushan Jadhav with his mother and wife in Pakistan, another sensitive development has come into light between the two countries. An Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) plot to set up a honey trap for three Indian officials working at Indian High Commission in Islamabad was unearthed. The officials, whose names were being withheld due to ongoing investigation, were immediately recalled early this week.
This incident has taken place when India has, on December 12, sent Ajay Bisaria as its new High Commissioner in Pakistan. He is yet to present his credentials to the country’s president.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]According to times of India, the plot was considered to be aimed to access India’s classified documents through these officials. However, fortunately the bid was foiled as authorities in MEA headquarters at New Delhi got wind of the plot in time before any classified document could be passed on to the Pakistani spy agency.
The recalled Indian officials, as of now, are not considered to be suspected of any wrongdoing while they are helping in the investigations. However, they are not likely to be deputed in Pakistan again.
The trick of throwing honey trap by spy agencies to lure officials of enemy nations is a common practice but it’s a rare development when Indian officials were targeted in Pakistan. In this case the officials seemed to have realised about the plot and decided to approach their senior authorities for help. The officials deployed in Islamabad were immediately asked to return.
The report further says that the junior Indian officials worked with the language section of the High Commission responsible for translation of official documents. It seems that the officials got suspicious as several attempts were made in the recent past to lure them to some local hotels by women.
The source familiar with the matter said, “The attempt even in this case was to seduce them and later film them in a compromising position.”
Earlier this month Pakistan had granted visa for the mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav, and she can now accompany Jadhav’s wife to meet him in Pakistan on 25 December.
Kulbhushan Jadhav, former Indian naval official, is facing death sentence in Pakistani jail for his alleged role in disruptive activities in Baluchistan province. Pakistan claims that he was arrested on 3 March 2016, after reportedly entering the country from Iran. However, India maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran, where he was engaged in business activities after getting retired from service.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
