Bollywood actor R. Madhavan has been selected as the new President of the Film and Television Institute of India and chairman of the governing council replacing Shekhar Kapur. Bollywood star film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect was recently awarded with Nation Award by the President of India Droupadi Murmu.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur took to X, formerly known as Twitter and congratulated R Madhavan for being nominated as FTII President. The minister said “I’m sure that your vast experience & strong ethics will enrich this institute, bring positive changes, & take it to a higher level. My best wishes to you, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said.

R Madhavan responding to the minister, the actor said he would do his best to live up to the expectations. The 3 Idiots actor said “Thank you so very much for the honour and kind wishes Anurag Thakur ji. I will do my very best to live up to all the expectations,” Madhavan responded to the union minister’s tweet.

The actor’s film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect recently won the 69th National Film Award for Best Feature Film. The film has been based on the life of former ISRO scientist S Nambi Narayanan and his contribution to ISRO.

The national award for ‘Rocketry’ was received a day after ISRO created history with Chandrayaan-3’s South Pole landing.

R Madhavan has been cast as the lead in ‘Test,’ a movie directed by Sashikanth. The focus of this film is reportedly on the cricket world, with Madhavan in the starring role.

FTII has had a significant impact on the Indian film and television industry, producing a multitude of skilled filmmakers, actors, and technicians who have made notable contributions to the world of cinema.

This institution has given rise to exceptional filmmakers such as Rajkumar Hirani, Mani Kaul, and Shyam Benegal, along with notable actors including Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, and Om Puri, among others.

His clarification came after his name had been circulating in discussions about possible contestants for Bigg Boss 20.

Batwara 1947 has had a disappointing run at the box office, and actor Shabana Azmi has now shared her thoughts on why the film may not have connected with audiences. According to Azmi, one possible reason could be the difficulty some viewers had in accepting Sunny Deol as a Muslim character.

The film, which also features Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi, was released on August 14. It has reportedly earned around Rs 53 crore so far, while Awarapan 2, which released on the same day, has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark.

Discussing the film’s response, Shabana Azmi questioned whether audiences were able to accept Sunny Deol in a Muslim role.

Azmi also suggested that there may have been confusion among some viewers about Sunny Deol’s character in Batwara 1947. She said that even some people who had watched the film believed Deol was playing a Pakistani character, whereas, according to her, he plays an Indian Muslim.

Azmi said she was surprised by the contrast between the appreciation she had heard from people who watched the film and its weak theatrical performance.

According to her, viewers who discussed the film with her had praised its message of humanity, but that appreciation did not translate into enough people going to theatres.

She also questioned whether audiences were uncomfortable with the film’s India-Pakistan subject. Azmi maintained that the film’s message was not politically incorrect and praised Sunny Deol’s performance.
