Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the coronavirus scare in India after fresh cases were reported in the country.

Former Congress chief said the prime minister should quit wasting India’s time “playing the clown” with his social media accounts when India is facing an emergency.

“Dear @PMOIndia, Quit wasting India’s time playing the clown with your social media accounts, when India is facing an emergency. Focus the attention of every Indian on taking on the Coronavirus challenge,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

With the message of “Here’s how it’s done”, Gandhi also tweeted a video of Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong addressing Singaporeans on how to deal with coronavirus.

Gandhi’s tweet also took a dig at PM Modi’s tweet yesterday where he was thinking of giving up his social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube this Sunday.

On Tuesday, Modi said on Women’s Day he will be handing over his social media accounts to women who inspire and urged people to share stories of such women with him.

Gandhi said a “true leader” would be completely focused on averting the massive crisis about to be unleashed on the country and its economy.

“There are moments in the life of every nation when its leaders are tested.

“A true leader would be completely focused on averting the massive crisis about to be unleashed by the virus on India and its economy,” Gandhi tweeted.

He also tagged his February 12 tweet in which he said the coronavirus is an extremely serious threat to “our people and our economy”.

“My sense is the government is not taking this threat seriously. Timely action is critical,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said there was “no need to panic” over the coronavirus scare in India. In a series of tweet, he also urged Indians to work together and take “small yet important measures to ensure self-protection”.

Two schools in Noida, Uttar Pradesh were shut down on Tuesday after it was found that the child of the Delhi man who tested positive for coronavirus yesterday studied in one of the schools. The other school which is in the vicinity also decided to shut down temporarily.

The number of death killed by coronavirus has crossed 3,000 worldwide and over 90,000 people have been affected by the deadly virus which originated in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province in China.

The visit is expected to combine infrastructure announcements with a major political outreach programme ahead of upcoming local body elections in the state.

ED conducted searches at multiple locations linked to Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora before arresting him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act

Punjab minister and AAP leader Sanjeev Arora was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday after the agency carried out raids at premises linked to him in Chandigarh and the Delhi-NCR region.

According to officials, the searches were conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The ED reportedly raided four locations connected to Arora and his associates before taking him into custody from his official residence in Chandigarh’s Sector 2.

Arora, 62, is the Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Ludhiana West and currently serves as a minister in the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Reports said this is the third time this year that the ED has conducted action linked to Arora. Earlier raids were also carried out in April and earlier this month as part of an ongoing investigation.

The arrest triggered strong political reactions from the Aam Aadmi Party. AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticised the BJP-led Centre, alleging misuse of central agencies against opposition leaders. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also attacked the BJP, saying Punjab would not be intimidated by such actions.

Several reports linked the ED action to an alleged money laundering probe connected to suspected fake GST transactions worth around ₹100 crore. However, the ED has not yet released a detailed official statement publicly outlining all allegations against the minister.

The arrest comes amid heightened political tensions in Punjab, where opposition parties and the ruling AAP have repeatedly clashed over corruption allegations and the use of investigative agencies.
