The restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after the death of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani last week, have been eased. The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday tweeted that internet curbs and other restrictions have been eased and the situation is fully normal in both regions of Jammu and Kashmir but under close watch.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police informed about the development in a series of tweets from their official Twitter handle. The tweet quoted Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh as complimenting police, the Army and the Central Armed Police Force for their highly professional handling of the ground situation.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have to move forward together to strengthen peace identifying the enemies of peace and weaning out the mischievous elements strictly dealing with them under law, the tweet read.

On Monday, the internet services in eight of the ten districts were restored. However, voice call and broadband services were restored on Friday.

Last week, days after Geelani’s death, police had said the situation is under control and that not a single untoward incident happened in the last two days, due to the cooperation of people.

Apart from internet curbs, all mosques and shrines were shut on the next day of Geelani’s death to prevent protests or in absentia holding of funeral prayers.

Geelani, 92, died last week and was buried at a graveyard near his residence.

The separatist’s son, Naeem Geelani had allleged that his last rites were performed against the wishes of the family, while the police have denied the allegations.

Naeem, son of Geelani, who was the president of Hurriyat Conference, had said they were not allowed to perform the last rites of their father according to Islamic law. It was our right but this right was also taken away from them, he added.

Dr Naeem Geelani and his brother Dr Naseem Geelani said that they could not take part in their father’s funeral. Both the brothers had alleged that when Geelani breathed his last on Wednesday, the police and government officials forcibly took away their father’s body.

However, the police had defended the move, saying the family had agreed to a night-time burial only to change their mind – probably under pressure from Pakistan and miscreants – and force authorities’ hand.

The police later released a video of Geelani’s funeral to dispel rumours about the alleged desecration of his body. The video shows that the body of Geelani was given proper ablution and buried amid recitation of verses from the holy Quran.

PM Modi accuses MVA of corruption, calls them detrimental to Maharashtra’s growth

Launching a scathing attack on the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused them of being the biggest player of corruption and stalling progress in the state.

PM Modi was addressing an election rally in Chimur, a town in the Chandrapur district. The Prime Minister further said that the MVA, a coalition of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Party (NCP), and the Congress is detrimental to Maharashtra’s growth.

He added that the people of Chandrapur have been demanding rail connectivity for years, but Congress and Aghadi did not let that happen. He continued that the rapid development in the state is beyond the reach of Aghadi.

PM Modi further stated that the Opposition have only done a PhD in putting a brake on development works, and Congress is a double PhD in it. He claimed that Aghadi means the biggest players of corruption.

PM Modi also assured the people that the BJP’s poll manifesto will become a Vikas Ki Guarantee (development guarantee) for Maharashtra in the next five years. He said that the NDA government at the Centre along with ruling Mahayuti, means double speed of development.

In the rally, the Prime Minister also slammed the Congress and the Gandhi family, which he claimed has a history of elitism and exclusion. He added that it has always been the mentality of Congress and Gandhi family that it was born to rule the country.

He also alleged that after Independence, Congress had stymied the progress of marginalised communities. He claimed that the grand old party never allowed Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis to progress.

Referring to an old Congress advertisement from when Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister, PM Modi argued that it reflected the party’s anti-reservation attitude.

Maharashtra will vote in a single-phase election on November 20 for the 288-seat Assembly. The counting of votes will take place on November 23.
