IND vs NZ: A look at Rohit Sharma’s struggle against left-arm pacers, how will hitman tackle NZ’s bowlers?

despite having a good track record against New Zealand, the batsman’s record against Trent Bout is not inspiring. In his seven innings, Rohit has scored only 29 runs against Bout, while being dismissed three times, and his dismissal against Shaheen Afridi in India vs Pakistan match was 14th to a left-arm pacer.

IND vs PAK

Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma aka Hitman is one of the most prolific run-scorer in World cricket. Rohit is the only batsman to smash three-double centuries in ODI cricket and four T20Is centuries. Despite all his batting records, Hitman still struggles against left-arm seamers and on top of that his record against Kiwi pace bowler Trent Boult has not been good in past.

Rohit’s dismissal against Pakistan, once again raised questions on his playing technique against left-arm pacers. Rohit fell to Shaheen Afridi’s in India vs Pakistan match, undoubtedly Shaheen’s delivery was a cracker, but to a batsman like Rohit who has a history against left-arm pacers, has once again grown the concerns among the cricket fraternity. Even, Indian captain, Virat Kohli was asked in his press conference if he will replace Rohit in the next match or, not! Though, Kohli gave a befitting reply to the journalist by saying how can you bench someone like Rohit, who has been one of the biggest match-winners for India in recent years.

The Indian opener has a tremendous record against the New Zealand side, he is the batsman with the most runs against New Zealand in T20Is, scoring 338 runs in 13 innings with an impressive strike rate of 137.95. He also has scored two fifties in his last two T20I matches against Kiwis.

But, despite having a good track record against New Zealand, the batsman’s record against Trent Boult is not inspiring. In his seven innings, Rohit has scored only 29 runs against Boult, while being dismissed three times, and his dismissal against Shaheen Afridi in India vs Pakistan match was 14th to a left-arm pacer.

Hitman’s struggles against left-arm pacers had seemed to end, after his recent dominant performance in Australia and England. Hopefully, Rohit overcomes his failures against left-arm pacers in India vs New Zealand match and score some big runs for his country.

Along with Australia’s batting prodigy Travis Head and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, India’s Mohammed Shami, who finished the recently concluded ICC World Cup as the tournament’s top wicket-taker, has been nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for November 2023.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released a statement saying, two ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 champions and an Indian fast-bowling veteran have made the shortlist for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for November 2023.

November saw Shami continuing on his incredible World Cup performance. At an economy rate of 5.68 and an average of 12.06, he claimed 15 wickets. With 24 wickets from just seven innings, he emerged as the 2023 Cricket World Cup’s top wicket-taker overall. One of his best performances this month was a breathtaking 5/18 at Wankhede versus Sri Lanka. When Shami came at the conclusion of the first Powerplay, Sri Lanka was already struggling in a 358-run chase. He batted through their middle and lower order in his five overs.

At Eden Gardens, a concentrated 2/18 led to South Africa’s destruction. But against New Zealand in the semi-final, the quick bowler was outstanding.

After an extended injury absence from work, Australia’s batting sensation Head made his comeback to the team at the end of October with a magnificent century against New Zealand. He carried on his strong form into November.

He amassed 220 runs at an incredible average of 44 in five One-Day Internationals in November, including a half-century and a century. His performances in the semi-final and final of the Cricket World Cup were noteworthy; he was voted Player of the Match and was instrumental in Australia’s sixth title.

In contrast, in his three ODI matches last month, Australia’s top all-around player Maxwell amassed 204 runs at an average of 204 and a strike rate of 152.23. He also claimed two wickets. During the series against India, he scored a remarkable 116 runs with an astounding strike rate of 207.14 in two Twenty20 Internationals.
