The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare asked Punjabi government to provide a report on the laws pertaining to In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) babies today. This development comes after late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s mother welcomed second child via IVF.
In a letter dated March 14, it requested a report from the Punjab government about Charan Kaur’s IVF treatment.
According to the Ministry, on February 27, it came across a newspaper article stating that Charan Kaur had undergone IVF treatment in order to become pregnant.
Moose Wala’s mother Charan Kaur, who is 58 years old, successfully conceived a child through IVF treatment, according to the ministry. The elderly couple welcomed their second son on March 18, about 22 months after Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Punjab.
The health ministry letter said, the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021’s Section 21(g) specifies that a woman receiving ART services must be between the ages of 21 and 50. Therefore, they requested Punjab government to investigate the matter and submit a report to this department of the action taken in this case in accordance with the ART (Regulation) Act, 2021.
Soon after getting the notice the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government tweeted on Wednesday, confirming the development. Taking to X, it said, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann always respects the sentiments and dignity of Punjabis, it’s the Central Govt that has asked for the documents.
Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh claimed that the Punjab government has harassed him. He said in a video that Due to Waheguru’s blessing they are blessed with Shubhdeep (Sidhu Moosewala’s brother). But since this morning, the government has been bugging me, demanding that he needs to provide the baby’s documentation. They are questioning him to prove that this child is legal, he added.
Meanwhile, On May 29, 2022, Moosewala was shot dead in the Mansa district of Punjab. On a Congress ticket from Mansa, the late singer-rapper contested in the Punjab Assembly elections 2022. However, he did not win.
