Days after a 3-month-old baby girl died after being branded 20 times with a hot poker by a faith healer in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district, a similar case has emerged, this time from Uttar Pradesh, where a one-year-old toddler was killed after his family took him to a local tantric who allegedly threw him on the ground and also broke his teeth to “heal” him.

According to reports, the victim, Anuj, had fallen ill and was taken to the so-called faith healer on Thursday night in Dhakar village of Bulandshahr district.

The incident, the second of its kind in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district, comes days after the body of a two-and-half-month-old girl- who had allegedly died in a similar incident- was exhumed last Friday.

The mother of the first victim, a resident of Kathotia village in Sinhpur, had told the police that she had taken her child to a faith healer for treatment, the healer branded the infant over 50 times with a hot iron to “cure” her. The victim died at Shahdol Medical College in January.
