“I am happy that the event is now being celebrated on a global level,” he said, addressing the attendees. PM Modi also said, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Arab Emirates have all begun to celebrate the occasion. Age does not matter when it comes to displaying courage, he continued.

Several Sikhs participated in the Veer Baal Diwas commemoration programme at Bharat Mandapam by performing the Sikh martial art, Gatka.

Shahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, the sons of Sikh spiritual leader Guru Gobind Singh, passed away on the day known as Veer Bal Diwas. On Aurangzeb’s command, the Mughals killed them.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah posted on social networking site X, saying, on Veer Bal Diwas, he bows to Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s four Sahibzade and Mata Gujri Ji. They bravely refused to convert and chose martyrdom in defiance of the cruel Mughal tyranny, he added. Future generations will be motivated by their unwavering bravery, Shah said.

Declaring Veer Bal Diwas as their Martyrdom Day, Prime Minister Modi Ji has told the story of their sacrifice to people all throughout the nation and the globe.

Veer Bal Diwas significance

In Sikh history, Veer Bal Diwas is very important because it honours Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh for their ultimate sacrifice. Generations have been inspired by their steadfast adherence to their religion and reluctance to waver—even in the face of death.

Today serves as a reminder of the bravery, sacrifice, and heroism displayed by the young Sahibzadas as they boldly confronted persecution because of their religion.

Veer Bal Diwas history

Guru Gobind Singh’s four sons, Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh, who belonged to the Khalsa military clan, experienced great hardship in 1704 when the Mughal army besieged Anandpur. As Guru Gobind Singh left Anandpur Sahib, the Mughals attacked in spite of an agreement, causing his family to be split apart.

At Chamkaur Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh and his eldest sons confronted an overwhelming Mughal force. Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh showed incredible bravery and gave their life in defence of the Guru. Nawab Wazir Khan abducted Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, his younger sons, but they refused to convert to Islam and chose martyrdom instead. As a result, they were brutally bricked alive for their unshakable Sikh faith. The story of Veer Bal Diwas highlights the great sacrifices that the family of Guru Gobind Singh made in the face of religious persecution.

In a significant political development in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results 2026, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is reported to have lost the Kolathur constituency, according to media reports based on counting data.

As per these reports, Stalin was defeated by V. S. Babu of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking a notable upset in a seat long regarded as a stronghold of the DMK leader.

Kolathur, located in Chennai, has been closely associated with Stalin for years, making the reported outcome particularly significant in the current election cycle. Earlier counting trends had indicated a tight contest, with Stalin trailing before the result was reported.

The development comes amid a strong showing by actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, which has performed competitively across several constituencies in the state, according to media reports.

While the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has been leading in multiple seats, the reported loss in Kolathur is being viewed as a key moment in the party’s overall performance.
