Chhoti Diwali 2021: Date, shubh muhurat, puja timings, and vidhi
The celebrations of the auspicious Hindu festival, Diwali has begun with Dhanteras today. The five-day-long festival is all about shopping, gifts, lights, and sweets. After Dhanteras, India will celebrate Choti Diwali that falls on November 3.
Chhoti Diwali, also known as Narak Chaturdashi falls on the 14th day of the month. It is celebrated annually on the second day of the five-day-long festival of Deepavali after Dhanteras.
Narak Chaturdashi celebrated just one day before Diwali is also known as small Diwali. The day is celebrated by early morning religious rituals and festivities follow on. Oil, flowers, and sandalwood are used in puja. Lord Hanuman is also given coconuts and Prasada made of sesame seeds, jaggery, and rice flakes (poha) cooked in ghee and sugar.

On the day of Chhoti Diwali, Narak Chaturdashi puja is performed that falls on the fourteenth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin. The puja will be performed on November 3.

The Shubh Muhurat for Narak Chaturdashi Puja will begin around 09:02 am on November 3 and will end on November 4 by 06:03 am. To perform this puja, devotees go for bathing, known as Abhyanga Snan, between 05:40 am to 06:30 am. The bath is said to be Holy that cleanses devotees’ souls and saves them from going to hell after death.

Meanwhile, Diwali, also known as Badi Diwali, will be celebrated on November 4. It marks the celebration of the victory of Lord Ram over Ravan. It was the day when Lord Ram, Sita, and Laxman along with Hanuman returned to Ayodhya after 14 years in exile. Diwali generally falls on the 15th day of the Holy month Kartik.
