Mamata Banerjee says hate politics of BJP will never triumph over secularism in Tagore’s land
Banerjee came hard the Bharatiya Janata Party and said the saffron party can buy a few MLAs but would never be able to buy the Trinamool Congress

Just few days after Home Minister Amit Shah’s roadshow in Bolpur, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday held a road show of her own on the same stretch in a massive show of strength. Banerjee came hard the Bharatiya Janata Party and said the saffron party can buy a few MLAs but would never be able to buy the Trinamool Congress. She added that it does not make much of a difference if few MLAs leave the party as people are with them.
For the uninitiated, several disgruntled functionaries have quit the TMC including former minister Suvendu Adhikari who joined the BJP recently. Hitting out at BJP for divisive politics, Banerjee said the land of Rabindranath Tagore will never allow hate politics to triumph over secularism. She said those who do not have respect for Mahatma Gandhi are today talking about Sonar Bangla which was already built by Tagore years ago. She said we need to protect the state of West Bengal from communal onslaught of the BJP.
During the roadshow, the chief minister also hit out at Viswa Bharti University’s Vice Chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty and called him a rubber stamp of the BJP. The university’s decision to invite PM Modi for a virtual address for its centenary celebrations had not gone down well with the TMC leader with the party claiming she was not even invited to be part of the celebrations, a charge denied by the university. The university had said that an invitation was sent to the TMC supremo 20 days in advance.
Ahead of the elections scheduled to take place in the state next year, war of words between the leaders of the two parties is at all time high. The tensions between the two parties escalated when convoy of BJP president JP Nadda was attacked earlier this month.
