A month before T20 World Cup in UAE, Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis on Monday resigned from their respective roles in Pakistan Cricket Board citing bio-bubble fatigue.

This decision helps raise a few eyebrows as it comes with just a month to go for the T20 World Cup.

On Monday, Pakistan had announced their squad for the T20 World Cup and the home series against New Zealand and England. The Black Caps, who are currently in Bangladesh, will play 3 One-Day Internationals and 5 T20Is in September-October.

Before the announcement, there was a resisted call to include veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik in the T20 World Cup squad claiming that the team were struggling with middle-order batting for the last two years.

Since Misbah-ul-Haq took over as the Pakistan head coach in September 2019, the team have tried 17 different players in the middle order but none of them succeeded. So that, the specialists were preferred to resolve the middle order collapse, Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim said.

The 39-year-old Shoaib Malik had played his last and 116th Twenty20 internationals in June 2020.

Therefore, Pakistan appointed former spinner Saqlain Mushtaq and former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq as interim coaches for the New Zealand series.

Misbah and Waqar’s sudden decision to quit PCB has led to the induction of former Test captain Ramiz Raja as the new Chairman of the board on September 13.

On his YouTube channel, Ramiz Raja, a commentator and analyst, had showed his disagreement in the selection process as he has been inclined towards younger players and power hitters in the T20 format.

His appointment comes days after he said Misbah and Waqar are not the best coaches for the Pakistan team.

On the sudden resigned of Misbah and Waqar, the PCB Chief Wasim Khan said the PCB understands and respects their decisions.

Saqlain, who is the Head of International Player Development at the National High-Performance Centre and Razzaq, who have won three domestic titles in the season 2020-21, have been appointed as interim coaches for the New Zealand series.
