Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Friday addressed Nav Sankalp Chintin Shivir and said that the Narendra Modi-led government is brutalising minorities of India and glorifying Mahatama Gandhi’s killers.

Speaking at the event in Udaipur, Gandhi said the Congress had worked for the welfare of India and its time for the ruling BJP to pay its debt to the party that had given them everything.

Gandhi continued that by now it is painfully clear what the Prime Minister and his colleagues meant by their slogan maximum governance, minimum government. Slamming the BJP over minorities, she said the BJP’s slogan means keeping the country in a permanent state of polarisation, compelling people to live in a constant state of fear and insecurity, viciously targeting, victimising, and brutalising minorities who are an intrinsic part of our society and equal citizen of our republic.

She then said to party workers and leaders that Congress has given everything and now it is time to do something for the party leaving aside personal aspirations.

Sonia Gandhi also hit out at the ruling party over their diversionary tactics and said the fires of hatred that are being ignited have taken a heavy toll on the lives of people and this is having much more serious social consequences than we can imagine.

Gandhi also slammed the Modi government over divisive politics and said Indians want to live in an atmosphere of peace, amity, and harmony. However, BJP and its allies are constantly provoked, instigating, and inflamed.

The Congress leader also said the brainstorming session gave the party an opportunity to discuss amongst us the multiple challenges that the country is currently facing due to the BJP, RSS, and its affiliates’ policies.

Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir is going on in Udaipur and continues till May 15. The main aim of the brainstorming session is to strengthen the party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Moments after CBI searched the houses and office premises of P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram over new allegations of taking bribes, the former Finance Minister questioned the timing of the raid done by the probe agency.

In his first reaction after the CBI raids, Chidambaram, a Rajya Sabha member, said the timing of the CBI raids at his home and office premises is interesting.

Taking to Twitter, Chidambaram said this morning, a team of CBI officials searched his residence at Chennai and official residence at Delhi. The team showed him an FIR in which he is not named as an accused, he said.

As soon as the news emerged, former Union Minister’s son Karti Chidambaram tweeted that he has lost count, how many times has it been? Must be a record, he asked in his tweet.

The search team found nothing and seized nothing. I may point out that the timing of the search is interesting, Chidambaram tweeted.

The CBI has raided a total of nine Chidambaram’s premises across Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab, Karnataka and Odisha in connection with a case against the minister’s son Karti Chidambaram.

Reports said the probe agency has registered a new case against Karti Chidambaram in connection with the alleged foreign transactions that took place between 2010-14. It is alleged that Karti Chidambaram had wrongly issued visas to Chinese people by taking money.

The matter is linked to a power project in Punjab, in which the visas were issued to 250 Chinese nationals for the Talwandi Sabo power project in Punjab in 2011. The probe agency also claimed that Karti Chidambaram had received Rs 50 lakh as a bribe to facilitate the visa to Chinese nationals.
