Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi summoned by ED in money laundering case
The Enforcement Directorate has now summoned Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi over money laundering case.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi were summoned by Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case on Wednesday. It is reported that they have been summoned over the National Herald case, which was closed by the investigating agency in 2015.
The probe in National Herald took place when a private criminal complaint was filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swami before a trial court in Delhi in 2013. In the complaint, it was alleged that there was cheating and misappropriation of funds on parts of Gandhis in the acquisition of the newspaper. It was also alleged by Swami that the Gandhis acquired properties that were owned by National Herald by buying over the newspaper’s erstwhile publishers through Young Indian in which they had an 86 per cent stake.
At that time, a tax evasion petition (TEP) was also addressed to the Finance Minister by Swamy. And, in the complaint before the trial court, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others were accused of misappropriating funds by paying just Rs 50 lakh, through which Young Indian has obtained the right to recover Rs 90.25 crore that AJL owed to the Congress.
As Sonia and Rahul Gandhi were summoned, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that they started the National Herald newspaper in 1942, at that time the British tried to suppress it and today, the Modi government is also doing the same and the ED is being used for this. He concluded by saying that ED has given notice to our president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Congress MP and senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi also said at a press conference that there is no evidence of money laundering or of any money exchange. He also said that the Centre is doing a political vendetta and is misusing central probe agencies to target the opposition with an eye on the assembly election.
