Anand Mahindra to gift electric car to Pragnanandhaa’s parents

Anand Mahindra has announced his intention to gift an electric car to the parents of Praggnanandhaa, and this tweet has garnered considerable attention since its posting. The genesis of this gesture lies in a series of requests on X (formerly Twitter) where people urged Anand Mahindra to gift a Thar vehicle to Praggnanandhaa. Responding to one of these requests, Anand Mahindra expressed his appreciation for the sentiment and acknowledged that many, like Krishlay, had suggested gifting a Thar to Praggnanandhaa.

He emphasized his desire to encourage parents to introduce their children to chess and provide support as they engage with this intellectual pursuit. He likened this endeavour to an investment in a better future for the planet, akin to the impact of electric vehicles (EVs). Consequently, he decided to gift an XUV4OO EV to Praggnanandhaa’s parents, Shrimati Nagalakshmi and Shri Rameshbabu, for their dedicated nurturing of their son’s passion and their unwavering support.

In the conclusion of his tweet, Anand Mahindra tagged Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO at Mahindra & Mahindra, seeking his perspective. In response, Jejurikar extended his congratulations to Praggnanandhaa for his remarkable achievement. He thanked Anand Mahindra for suggesting the idea of recognizing Praggnanandhaa’s parents, and he expressed that an All-Electric SUV XUV400 would be the perfect choice. He mentioned that the team would collaborate on a special edition and its delivery.

This announcement was made recently and has already garnered more than 51,000 views and over 1,600 likes. The post has also garnered a significant number of comments, where people shared their views and appreciation. One individual highlighted the excellence of the idea in appreciating parents to motivate their child’s pursuit, which has now become an inspiration for other kids aspiring to achieve their goals.

Another comment praised Anand Mahindra for his thoughtful initiative, aligning perfectly with promoting chess and supporting parents nurturing their children’s passions, thereby investing in a brighter future. A third comment regarded Anand Mahindra’s gesture as reflective of a grandmaster’s perspective, focusing on nurturing young intellects and steering them towards a sustainable future – a gift with lasting impact.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday addressed speculation surrounding chief selector Ajit Agarkar after he was absent from an important meeting involving India’s senior cricket leadership.

The meeting was attended by India captains Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, head coach Gautam Gambhir, BCCI officials and Centre of Excellence director of cricket VVS Laxman. Agarkar, however, was not present either in person or virtually.

His absence led to speculation about his future as chairman of the men’s senior selection committee.

BCCI explains Agarkar’s absence

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said Agarkar was out of station when the meeting was called at short notice.

According to Saikia, Agarkar was in an area where he could not join the meeting online despite making efforts to do so.

Saikia’s clarification came amid reports and speculation over whether Agarkar’s tenure as chief selector could be extended.

No discussion on Agarkar’s extension

Asked whether the BCCI discussed extending Agarkar’s tenure during the meeting, Saikia said there was no such discussion.

He also rejected speculation about VVS Laxman being appointed as the BCCI’s director of cricket, saying the board had neither discussed such a move nor had any intention of doing so.

Agarkar’s tenure marked by key decisions

Agarkar’s tenure as chief selector has included several high-profile decisions involving India’s leadership and squad selection.

One notable decision was the backing of Suryakumar Yadav as a long-term T20I captain ahead of Hardik Pandya.

Another major call involved replacing Rohit Sharma as India’s ODI captain. Both decisions attracted considerable attention and criticism, but Agarkar publicly defended the selection committee’s decisions.

For now, the BCCI has made it clear that Agarkar’s absence from Thursday’s meeting was due to logistical circumstances and that no discussion on extending his tenure took place during the meeting.
