Asia Cup 2022

Sri Lanka has won the Asia Cup for the sixth time in 2022. The team which had nothing in hand while travelling to UAE, the ones who are going through personal crises and the team that is yet to qualify for the T20 World Cup has won the Asia Cup 2022 title by defeating Pakistan by 23 runs.

However, Sri Lanka did not have a perfect start during both the innings of Asia Cup 2022 final. The team was down to two wickets for 28 runs but then Bhanuka Rajapaksa 71 of 45 helped Sri Lanka is giving a giant total of 171 for Pakistan to chase.

On the other hand, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam did not live up to the expectation once again and got out for just 5 runs out of 6 balls. The second opener of Pakistan Mohammad Rizwan did try to stability to Pakistan’s innings but failed to do so as he scored 55 off 49 balls.

Rizwan (281) did become the highest scorer of Asia Cup 2022 by defeating Virat Kohli who is on the second spot with 276 runs. But still Rizwan is being criticized by cricket critiques on social media. Precisely because in a format like T20 an opener is expected to score quick but the Pakistan opener just had a difference of 6 runs.

Secondly, because Rizwan is an in-form batsman who has the ability to score big, hence, he should have tried for sixes and boundaries instead of focusing at his half century.

Sri Lanka even had a bad opening while bowling to Pakistan as they gave 9 runs after wide balls but still due to the help of Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana and Pramod Madushan’s four wickets each, the team was able to restrict the opponents and won the match by 23 runs.

As soon as Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup 2022 title, tweeple accused Mohammad Rizwan for being selfish and not playing for his country. People also compared him to KL Rahul who is often blamed for focusing on his centuries instead of team score.
