World No. 1 Rafael Nadal of Spain defeated Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien in straight sets to cruise into the second round of Australian Open.

He beat the Bolivian 6-2, 6-3, 6-0 in a match that lasted just over two hours and showed his dominance by hitting plenty of winners.

After the match when Nadal was asked about his best moment of 2019 and given the options of winning two Grand Slam, one Davis Cup and finishing as the number one ranked player, he chose ‘the wedding’ as the top moment.

Nadal will now face Federico Delbonis, who won his match with Joao Sousa, in the second round.

Madison Keys of USA found no difficulty in overcoming Russia’s Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 6-1 in just 57 minutes.

Daniil Medvedev of Russia, who had a superb second half of 2019, was challenged by Francis Tiafoe of USA in the first round. The Russian eventually won the battle in four sets 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-2.

World no. 5 Dominic Thiem of Australia made an impressive start with a 6-3 7-5 6-2 victory over Adrian Mannarino.

Former world no.1 Maria Sharapova faltered once again at the Grand Slams as she was knocked out in the first round by Donna Vekić of Croatia.

Fabio Fognini produced a comeback victory and won a five-set battle against Reilly Opelka of USA after losing the first two sets. The match was marred by expletives coming from both players.

IND vs NZ: Third ODI called off due to rain, New Zealand win series 1-0

New Zealand has emerged victorious in the 3-match ODI series played against India. The 3rd ODI between India and New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch was abandoned due to rain.
The match could not be played further following the showers. The second ODI was also cancelled due to rainfall as well. And now New Zealand has won the series 1-0.

Batting first after losing the toss, Team India was reduced to a score of 219 in 47.3 overs. Washington Sundar (51) scored a half-century, while Shreyas Iyer scored 49 runs. In response, New Zealand had scored 104 runs after losing a single wicket in 18 overs.

Devon Conway scored 38 runs and captain Kane Williamson was at the crease at zero. Finn Allen was dismissed by Umran Malik after scoring 57 runs. It rained after this and the Kiwis won the series 1-0.

Had there been two more overs in the third ODI, New Zealand would have won. In order to be decided in any ODI match, it is necessary to have at least 20 overs of play in both the innings. The Kiwis were 50 runs ahead under the Duckworth-Lewis method when play was stopped, but the result was inconclusive as 20 overs were not completed.

India’s batting and bowling both flopped

Team India flopped on every front in the third ODI. Apart from Washington Sundar and Shreyas Iyer, no one could play a good inning in batting. Similarly, none of India’s bowlers could make a significant impact in bowling 18 overs.

Team India failed to play 50 overs

Team India could not even play full 50 overs on the grassy wicket of Hagley Oval. The Kiwi bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals and the team did not manage to score big. Only Shreyas Iyer and Washington Sundar spent some time at the crease. The rest of the batsmen left the crease earlier than expected.

Now team India will head back to Bangladesh for the three match ODI series followed by three match Test series as well. Senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammad Shami and KL Rahul will mark their comeback in the team. The One Day Internationals will begin from December 4.

IND vs NZ: Do or die for India in the third ODI match, Sanju Samson’s place in playing XI still questionable

IND vs NZ: Do or die for India in the third ODI match, Sanju Samson's place in playing XI still questionable

Team India is all set to play the third One Day Internationals tomorrow at Hagley Oval against New Zealand. Team India is now in a do or die situation as they will not only have to win the decider match but will also have to pray that even a droplet of rain does not fall at Christchurch tomorrow in order to equalize 1-1 in the three-match ODI series.

The weather forecast claims that there are 40 percent chances of rain at Christchurch tomorrow and if it happens then there will be nothing more disappointing for the young cricketers of the Indian team. The rain has already played a spoilsport for the youngsters as they got a golden opportunity to prove their mettle in the absence of the senior players.

But the first and third match of the India vs New Zealand T20 series was disturbed by the rain. Later India won the series as they had defeated the host in the second T20 match. And now something same seems to happen in the ODI series.

The first match was won by Black Caps and the second match was cancelled after heavy rain at Napier. And now both the teams are all to seal the third match on a winning note but they’ll only be successful in doing so if rain does not interrupts the match.

On the other hand, out of these five matches Sanju Samson only got to play one match and seems like in order to give Rishabh Pant the priority, Samson may be benched for the 3rd IND vs NZ ODI.

As per ICC rules, the top eight teams on the points table of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League will directly qualify for the World Cup. The Indian team will make it to the tournament as hosts. Whereas, the rest of the teams will have to play the qualifying round and the first two placed teams will make it to the main round. In such a situation, teams like South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies can be in trouble.

The Sri Lankan team is currently at the 10th position in the points table of the Cricket World Cup Super League with 67 points. They have four matches to make it to the eight teams. Same way South Africa is at 11th position with 59 points. They will have to win four of their five matches to make it to the super eight. Three of these matches are against England and two are against team Netherlands.

On the other hand, West Indies is at the eighth position with 88 points. This team can directly qualify for the World Cup by performing well in their upcoming matches. Compared to South Africa and Sri Lanka, the road to West Indies is easier.
