The Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI) sacked the Chief Selector, Chetan Sharma, and the rest of the selection committee on Friday. BCCI in its bid for reform in the system has also opened applications for replacements and has issued a deadline for the submission of the application latest by November 28, 6 pm.
The team of selectors who were relieved of their responsibilities includes Chief Selector Chetan Sharma and the rest of the team that is Sunil Joshi (South Zone), Harvinder Singh (Central Zone), and Debashish Mohanty (East Zone). The step for sacking the selection committee in the Indian Cricket team comes after BCCI’s Secretary Jay Shah informed that a new committee will be formed last month.
Shah had also stated that a Cricket Advisory Committee will be instituted that will look over the appointment procedure for the national selectors. He also informed that the role of CAC will also be to conduct a review of the candidates and provide feedback on their performance after 1 year to the board.
The action of relieving the selection committee from their duties comes after India’s unfortunate exit from the T20 World Cup against England. India, despite being saved by Indian cricket phenom Virat Kohli on several occasions during the campaign., the team failed to keep up a consistent performance which led to their exit from the World Cup.
As for the terminated selection Committee, their last assignment was the selection of the squad for the Indian Cricket team ahead of their ODI and Test Tour in Bangladesh which is scheduled to be held from December 4 to 26.
