There was a standout moment during the second T20I between India and South Africa on Sunday at the Barsapara Stadium when former team India skipper Virat Kohli decided to keep the team interest above his personal milestone.

With this, Kohli once again proved that he is a team man and keeps the national interest above his personal milestones.

During the last over of India’s innings, Kohli was just one-run short of his half-century and fans were eagerly awaiting to celebrate the moment but he put the team first and told Dinesh Karthik to finish the job.

After 16-runs win over South Africa in a high-scoring game, the BCCI shared the video of the moment on Twitter, leaving fans in awe. Kohli’s gesture earned him a lot of praise as he missed a record-extending half-century.

In the video tweeted by BCCI, Dinesh Karthik, team India’s designated finisher, can be seen asking Virat Kohli if he wanted to strike to complete another half-century but the former skipper was quick to turn him away, asking him to perform the designated finisher’s role.

Karthik was on strike in the final of the first inning while Kohli was at the non-striker’s end with 49 off 28.

Taking strike, Karthik missed the first ball of the final over but found the boundary off the next delivery. Followed by a dot and a wide, he hit a six.

After hitting six on the 4th ball of the final over, he walked over to Kohli and asked him to play the last two deliveries as he needed just one run for his century.

Karthik went on to hit a stylish six over extra cover and then the two ran one bye as India made 237/3.

Despite some poor bowling effort from the bowlers, Team India was able to register 16 run win over South Africa in a run-fest T20I in Guwahati. Apart from Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul, skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also contributed with the bat.

Despite David Miller’s thrilling century and Quinton De Kock’s half-century, South Africa fell short of 16 runs and was left behind to level the three-match T20I series.

They always play victim card: Here’s what Ravichandran Ashwin said on Deepti Sharma’s run out at Lords

After winning the Lord’s ODI, team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur had backed her player Deepti, saying whatever happened was within the rules and she showed great game awareness.

Deepti Sharma’s run out of Charlie Dean in the third India women-England women ODI at Lord’s on September 24 is still being discussed by the fans and pundits, who are still debating whether this dismissal is in ‘spirit of cricket’.

Ashwin, who had also run-out Jos Buttler during the 2019 Indian Premier League in the same fashion, spoke in detail on the subject on his YouTube channel on Sunday.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin tore through Deepti Sharma’s critics and called them out for controlling the narratives and playing the victim card. He sees this particular mode of dismissal as bowlers’ revolution, he said.

Ashwin said initially, most of the world saw Sharma’s actions as a crime but the opinion is changing now, there’s still a section of people who are resisting. In the beginning, the whole world saw it that way. But now, most of them have started realising that the bowlers didn’t commit any crime there, he said.

The team India spinner also said many of them have started asking why you are asking questions to the innocent instead of asking the person who should be guilty. Only a certain section of the people seems to have a problem with this, he said.

Deepti Sharma’s controversial run-out reignited the debate on the undefined spirit of cricket and the morality of running out a non-striker before bowling the ball, despite the latter being a clearly-defined law in the International Cricket Council’s books.

After winning the Lord’s ODI, team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur had backed her player Deepti, saying whatever happened was within the rules and she showed great game awareness.
