Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma and Kapil Dev

Former and World Cup winning Indian captain Kapil Dev lashed out on the golden trio of current Indian team, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Considering their failures at big occasions, Kapil Dev said that whenever, the team needs them to score big, they get out quickly.

Making a bold statement during a recent press meet, the former skipper said that there are chances that BCCI might reconsider about their position in the team. Being absolutely honest and critical, Kapil dev went ahead and said that these three cricketers have big name and reputation and seemingly that perhaps hamper their performances.

However, talking about the same, Dev said that cricketers should play fearless cricket and not feel burdened over the name and fame they have earned while playing for the country. “All three of them have a strike rate of 150-160 but unfortunately at big occasion, when we want then to score big, when we think it’s time to take off with their super striker role, they get out.

Talking about the nature of the sport, the Indian World Cup winning captain said that the batsmen are expected to either play a striker or an anchor but in case they are unable to do so, it adds pressure on them only.

Talking about the nature of the sport, the Indian World Cup winning captain said that the batsmen are expected to either play a striker or an anchor but in case they are unable to do so, it adds pressure on them only.

Believing that any cricketer never has a permanent seat in the playing eleven, Kapil Dev further said that if this trio keep disappointing the audience, then probably it’s time for BCCI to think about their position in the team.

Particularly talking about the captain of Indian team for the IND vs SA T20 Series KL Rahul Kapil Dev said, “if the team expects him to play the entire 20 overs and he come back with 60 not out, then he’s not doing justice to the team. Moreover, I think the approach needs to change. But if it doesn’t, then you have to change the players.”

PCB blames ICC for India’s national anthem incident during AUS vs ENG, demands explanation from apex body

After extensive negotiations, Dubai was finalized as the venue for all of India’s matches in the tournament.

The opening week of the Champions Trophy was marked by unexpected mishaps, causing tensions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC). The trouble began when the PCB lodged a complaint regarding a broadcasting error during India’s initial game against Bangladesh in Dubai.

The situation escalated when, before the match between Australia and England at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, a brief playing of India’s national anthem occurred instead of England’s “God Save the King/Queen.” This unexpected blunder took spectators by surprise and further aggravated the PCB.

In response, the PCB sought clarification from the ICC, emphasizing the mistake was particularly perplexing given that India was not participating in the Pakistan leg of the tournament. According to a source within the ICC, the PCB demanded an explanation, asserting that the ICC should be accountable for the anthem playlist used during the Champions Trophy.

“The PCB has made it clear that the ICC needs to offer some explanation as their people are responsible for the (national anthem) playlist of teams in the Champions Trophy,” the source stated, questioning how India’s anthem was mistakenly included.

The backdrop to these incidents is BCCI’s refusal to send the Indian team to Pakistan, a decision influenced by the Indian government’s denial of clearance. After extensive negotiations, Dubai was finalized as the venue for all of India’s matches in the tournament.

The PCB’s grievances didn’t stop there. They had already addressed another broadcast issue to the ICC, pointing out that the tournament logo was not displayed during India’s match with Bangladesh. Reports indicated that during the broadcast of the Champions Trophy matches, the logo prominently featured ‘Pakistan’ as the host nation except for the India-Bangladesh game.

Initially, the ICC claimed the omission was due to a longer screen time that required a smaller logo. However, they later acknowledged the oversight and agreed to correct the graphic for all subsequent matches.

These consecutive missteps in the Champions Trophy have highlighted the logistical challenges faced by organizers and the significance of maintaining respect for national identities in international events.

Rahul Dravid returns in cricket, plays alongside son in KSCA league

Former India head coach Rahul Dravid made an unexpected return to competitive cricket, playing alongside his younger son, Anvay, for Vijaya Cricket Club in a KSCA Division III League match against Young Lions Club on February 22. Dravid, now coaching the Rajasthan Royals, partnered with Anvay for a brief stint, contributing 17 runs before being dismissed by bowler AR Ullas for 10.

The appearance of Dravid, who had retired from professional cricket in 2012, astonished the Young Lions players, even though his time on the field was short. Both of Dravid’s sons, Samit and Anvay, are active participants in Karnataka’s age-group cricket scene, making the occasion particularly special for the former captain.

This return to the pitch also brought back memories of 2013 when Dravid, shortly after his retirement, played for his childhood team, Bangalore United Cricket Club, in the KSCA Second Division League.

As Vijaya Cricket Club batted first, Anvay Dravid made a significant impact with a solid innings of 58 runs off 60 balls, providing essential stability for the team. Sharing the crease with his father was a memorable experience for Anvay, adding an emotional layer to the match. Dravid attempted to increase the scoring rate with a lofted shot towards long-off but misjudged it, resulting in his dismissal.

Ultimately, Vijaya Cricket Club triumphed with a 24-run victory, earning a place in the semi-finals of the league. Dravid’s brief yet poignant return to the game will be a cherished memory for him and his family. With the match behind him, Dravid will now redirect his attention to his role as head coach of the Rajasthan Royals, preparing them for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.

This surprise cameo not only highlights Dravid’s ongoing passion for cricket but also illustrates the strong family ties and shared love for the sport that spans generations. It will undoubtedly be a moment that Anvay will treasure as he continues his own journey in cricket.

On the other hand, India’s captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged the importance of the match but remained unfazed by the toss outcome, saying, “It doesn’t matter what I would’ve chosen; they won the toss, so we’ll bowl first. The pitch appears similar to our last game, and with our experienced batting unit, we’re prepared for any conditions. We’re aiming for a solid all-round performance after the challenges we faced in our previous match. We’re maintaining the same team composition.”
