The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the replacement for Washington Sundar for the India Vs Zimbabwe ODI series. Royal Challenger Bangalore’s Shahbaz Ahmed will be replacing injured Sundar in the upcoming ODI tour against Zimbabwe, which will be played at the Harare Sports Club from August 18 onwards.
Washington’s shoulder injury happened during a country match and now it has deemed him unfit for the tour. The replacement, however, will be Shahbaz, who received a lot of praises for his reliability during his stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021-2022.
Shahbaz Ahmed has till date played 16 games for RCB and has scored 219 points with four wickets in hand. His stats speak for themselves as the cricketer managed to have an average of 47.28 in 26 games.

Meanwhile, Sundar has been very unfortunate with his consistent run-ins with injuries. Although he managed to mark his versatility in his game, Sundar still took quite a time retrieving himself from injuries as the Indian cricketer broke his finger during the India tour of England last year, and prior to that, he had strained his hamstring ahead of the South Africa tour in January 2022.
The captaincy role has been given to the right-handed batter, KL Rahul, even though it was disclosed by BCCI that Shikhar Dhawan would be guiding the team earlier on. The leaning toward Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Yuzvendra Chahal has been dissolved as the Indian team again is trying to start off with a fresh slate.
Recently India won the T20 and ODI series against West Indies as Shikhar Dhawan did not only take on the captaincy role but also teamed up with Shubham Gill and made solid partnerships.
On the other hand, Zimbabwe also have good record lately, as they defeated Bangladesh and ease past them in both the ODI and T20I series.
Indian squad for IND vs ZIM ODI: KL Rahul (captain), Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar and Shahbaz Ahmed.
