After almost ten years, former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu will make a comeback to his home ground, the commentary box. Sidhu is back in the hot seat for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after being active in his political career.

Star Sports, the IPL’s official television broadcaster, has announced that Navjot Singh Sidhu will rejoin the IPL as a Hindi commentator for the 2024 season. The former batter will start his second innings as a commentator as early as the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will square off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the season opening match.

For the generation of cricket fans who grew up watching the sport in the early 2000s, Navjot Singh Sidhu is a part of that nostalgia. Sidhu was among the men and women who called the game and contributed to the IPL becoming a household name in its inaugural season in 2008, when it was still a new and unexplored entity in the cricket world.

Sidhu, who is known for his aggression and flamboyant style at bat, was able to carry over his charm and style into the commentary box. Fans who were starting to fall in love with the IPL found great enjoyment in his one-liners and shayari, particularly when they were broadcasted in Hindi.

During a recent interview, Sidhu said, he is eager to get back to his home ground.

He said, commentary runs in his blood. It’s his identity. Like the great Guru gave them their turban. He is recognised by his turban. He is very fortunate guy that his hobby is his profession, Sidhu said.

The former cricketer said, very few people will be able to pursue their passions. Time flies when you do something that brings youhappiness. He considers commentary to be a godsend. It will be his home field, and he feels completely at ease doing commentory, he continued.

Meanwhile, Sidhu might have stayed away from the commentary for nearly a decade. But despite, having served as Lok Sabha MP as many as 3 times, Sidhu has been keeping himself up to date with the latest developments in the sport.
