Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan celebrating centuries in Pakistan's win over South Africa

In an exciting encounter in the Tri Series, Pakistan defeated South Africa by 6 wickets in the third ODI on Wednesday, securing a spot in the final against New Zealand. The remarkable centuries from Salman Agha (134*) and Mohammad Rizwan (122*) propelled Pakistan to chase down a challenging target of 353 in just 49 overs. This was Pakistan’s highest successful chase in ODIs, marking a milestone in their cricketing history.

South Africa posts a formidable total

South Africa, after being put to bat first, posted a hefty total of 352/5, thanks to solid half-centuries from Temba Bavuma (82), Matthew Breetzke (83), and Heinrich Klaasen (87). Despite the strong batting performance, Pakistan’s bowlers maintained control through the middle overs, restricting South Africa from pushing beyond the 350-mark.

Agha and Rizwan’s match-winning partnership

Chasing the big total, Pakistan’s openers provided a solid foundation, but the team found themselves in a difficult spot after losing three quick wickets. However, the match turned in Pakistan’s favour with a remarkable partnership between Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan. Both players started cautiously, but they accelerated as the innings progressed, adding a crucial 200+ run stand. Agha’s 134* and Rizwan’s 122* helped Pakistan reach the target with ease, with Agha falling just before the end of the chase.

South Africa’s bowlers struggle

Despite a promising start with the ball by Mulder, South Africa’s bowlers were unable to maintain pressure in the middle overs. The lack of wicket-taking opportunities and the frequent boundary balls allowed Pakistan to stay on track for the chase. South Africa’s spinners struggled to extract any significant turn from the pitch, which further aided the Pakistani batsmen.

Pakistan’s path to the final

With this win, Pakistan sealed their spot in the final of the Tri Series, where they will face New Zealand on the 14th of this month. Pakistan will look to avenge their defeat in the opening game of the series, with both teams gearing up for what promises to be an exciting final.

As for South Africa, captain Temba Bavuma expressed satisfaction with his team’s batting performance but was disappointed with their inability to take wickets when needed. “It was a good wicket to bat on, and we couldn’t find a way to take wickets in the middle overs,” Bavuma said after the match.

Player of the Match: Salman Agha

Salman Agha was named Player of the Match for his stellar knock. Reflecting on his performance, Agha said, “The wicket didn’t change much, and we just had to take the game deep. I’m happy to contribute to the team in a big way.”

Pakistan’s victory was a testament to their resilience and solid batting performance, heading into the final with confidence. The clash with New Zealand promises to be a thrilling encounter.

India began their three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe with a commanding seven-wicket victory in Harare on Thursday, thanks to a sensational batting display from teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a disciplined effort from the bowlers.

Chasing a modest target of 126, India reached 126/3 in just 13.2 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The highlight of the match was Sooryavanshi’s blistering half-century, which made him the youngest player to score a T20I fifty.

Sooryavanshi creates history with 18-ball fifty

The 15-year-old left-hander stole the show with a fearless knock of 50 off just 19 deliveries. He raced to his maiden T20I half-century in only 18 balls, smashing four boundaries and four sixes before being dismissed by Richard Ngarava immediately after reaching the landmark.

At 15 years and 118 days, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to score a T20 International half-century. He also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record to become the youngest Indian to register an international fifty.

His aggressive strokeplay completely shifted the momentum in India’s favour after the visitors lost an early wicket.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer complete comfortable chase

After Abhishek Sharma departed for one, Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan put India firmly in control with an attacking partnership.

Kishan continued the momentum with an entertaining 35 off 24 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes before falling to Blessing Muzarabani.

Captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with an unbeaten 28 off 24 deliveries, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on five as India comfortably crossed the finish line with seven wickets in hand and 40 balls remaining.

India bowlers restrict Zimbabwe to 125

Earlier, India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that paid immediate dividends.

Speedster Mayank Yadav struck with the very first ball of the innings after India successfully reviewed an edge to dismiss Brian Bennett. He later removed Dion Myers to finish with figures of 2/18.

Prince Yadav also impressed, claiming two wickets for 19 runs, including the dismissal of Ben Curran and Brad Evans.

Shivam Dube dismissed Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza, while Ravi Bishnoi ended Ryan Burl’s resistance with a well-disguised googly.

Zimbabwe struggled to recover after early setbacks, slipping to 32/4 before Wessly Madhevere and Ryan Burl stitched together a 32-run partnership.

Madhevere top-scored with 39 off 34 balls, while Burl contributed 26. However, India’s disciplined bowling and tight death overs restricted the hosts to 125/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

India take early series advantage

India’s convincing victory gives them a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series and provides captain Shreyas Iyer with a winning start to the tour.

While the bowlers laid the platform with an impressive performance, it was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking innings that stole the spotlight, with the teenager announcing himself on the international stage in spectacular fashion.

Harsh Dubey

India have made a late change to their squad for the third and final ODI against England after all-rounder Washington Sundar was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Saturday that left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Harsh Dubey has been added to the squad for the series decider at Lord’s.

Washington Sundar ruled out with hamstring injury

Sundar sustained a right hamstring injury during the second ODI against England at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The injury has forced him to miss Sunday’s decisive encounter.

According to the BCCI, the all-rounder will undergo scans and seek specialist medical opinion to determine the next course of treatment.

His absence comes as a setback for India ahead of the final ODI, with the three-match series level after England won the second match.

Harsh Dubey earns another opportunity

Harsh Dubey replaces Sundar in the Indian squad after making his ODI debut against Afghanistan in Dharamshala in June, where he returned figures of 3/47.

The young all-rounder was also part of the India A side that secured a 1-0 red-ball series victory in Sri Lanka. During the tour, he claimed four wickets and contributed scores of 30 and 29 with the bat.

Dubey joins India’s spin department alongside Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav for the Lord’s clash.

Zimbabwe assignment after England series

Following the conclusion of the England ODI series, Dubey will travel to Zimbabwe for India’s three-match series beginning on July 23 in Harare. The remaining matches are scheduled for July 25 and July 26 at the Harare Sports Club.

India’s squad for the third ODI

Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav and Harsh Dubey.

Shreyas Iyer calls India’s T20I struggles a transition phase after England seal series

Shreyas Iyer admitted India failed in execution after England’s nine-wicket victory sealed the T20I series, describing the current squad as one in transition.

Shreyas Iyer

England clinched the T20I series against India with a convincing nine-wicket victory, leaving India captain Shreyas Iyer disappointed with his team’s overall performance despite scoring an unbeaten 80.

India posted 158 for 7 after Iyer anchored the innings with the highest score. However, England made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 13.5 overs to take an unassailable lead in the series.

Iyer rues poor execution across departments

Following the defeat, Iyer admitted India failed to execute their plans with both bat and ball.

He said 158 was not an ideal total on the board and acknowledged that England’s rapid chase reflected India’s shortcomings. According to the skipper, the bowlers were instructed to repeatedly target a difficult length around the top of middle and leg stump, but the team failed to execute those plans consistently.

Although satisfied with his personal contribution, Iyer said individual performances hold little value when the team ends up on the losing side.

He added that his priority is always to contribute to victories and expressed hope of bouncing back in the next match.

‘This is a transition phase,’ says India captain

Iyer described the current Indian side as a team in transition and stressed that mistakes are part of the learning process.

He said the players need to understand the importance of adapting quickly and expressed confidence that the squad has enough quick learners who will assess their performances and improve from the experience.

Harry Brook praises England’s adaptability

England captain Harry Brook credited his team’s success to its ability to adjust to the conditions and the communication between the players and coaching staff.

Brook said the team had enjoyed the contest and was delighted to secure the series against India. He identified adaptability and strong communication as the two biggest reasons behind England’s dominant performances.

The England skipper also praised fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue for once again making an early impact with the ball before expressing his ambition of seeing England rise to the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20I rankings.

England now have the opportunity to complete a 4-0 series sweep in Southampton on Saturday, a result that would also see them replace reigning world champions India at the top of the T20I rankings.
