Dravid said the nature of pitches in India make it mandatory for a wicketkeeper to stand up to the wickets against spinners. He said as a result this role has to be assigned to a specialist wicketkeeper. Bharat’s experience in Indian conditions is an important factor for him to be preferred choice in the wicketkeeper’s role.
The first test match against England is scheduled to begin on Thursday. The decision on the wicketkeeper batsman’s role will be crucial for India’s strategy against England. The head coach was asked about the role of the pitch in offering turn in first Test in Hyderabad. He said the pitch looks good from what he had seen. He expected the ball to spin a little bit but he was not sure how quickly and how much it is going to spin.
Dravid said the ball might spin a little bit as the game moves on. He said playing in Indian conditions will be a challenge for the English team. The head coach said the Indian team has a home advantage as it knows these conditions very well.
