Shreyas Iyer struck his maiden ODI ton as India reached 347/4 in 50 overs against New Zealand in the first ODI at Hamilton on Wednesday.
KL Rahul and skipper Virat Kohli made fine fifties to take India to a commanding total.
Iyer showed why he deserved the number four spot, scoring 103 off 107 balls, his first ODI ton.
Rahul continued his purple patch, smashing unbeaten 88 off 64 balls while Kohli made 51 off 63 deliveries.
Iyer hit 11 boundaries and one six as he put on 136 runs with KL Rahul for the fourth wicket. Kedar Jadhav hit a brisk 26 off 15 deliveries to cap off a brilliant batting display by India.
Earlier, Indian openers, Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw, who were both making their ODI debut put 50 runs for the first wicket before departing in quick successions.
Shaw was the first to go, nicking behind Colin de Grandhomme’s delivery, while Agarwal was caught at point by Blundell off Tim Southee.
Virat Kohli and Iyer then put on 102 runs for the third wicket to give India a solid platform for a strong finish.
Soon after getting to his fifty, Virat Kohli was undone by an Ish Sodhi googly which foxed the Indian skipper and rattled his stumps.
Tom Latham did not use his bowlers well as Ish Sodhi got only four overs, while an economical de Grandhomme and Jimmy Neesham had two overs cut short from their spell.
Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers but was very expensive as he gave away 85 runs while claiming two wickets.
