Team India star player Virat Kohli, is the recent celebrity to be duped by artificial intelligence and deepfake technology. A video of him advertising an illegal betting app went viral on social media.

In order to produce a deepfake advertisement, Kohli’s AI-generated voice has been combined with morphed footage from some of his previous videos.

Recently, a video of Kohli saying he earned a large returns on a low-key investment through a betting app went viral on social media. The advertisement also features footage of a popular news anchor Anjana Om Kashyap, to make it more authentic. The advertisement portrays Kohli as a guest on a live news show, explaining to viewers how they can also earn profit from the betting app.

Fans on social media have been made aware of the deceptive deepfake video, and many have flagged it to make sure others don’t fall for it. In the advertisement, Kohli is shown profiting Rs 81,000 on a little Rs 1,000 investment.

This is not the first time when any celebrity has become the victim of deepfake video. Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar’s video also went viral, in which he was seen endorsing a gaming app. It was a digitally edited movie with the former batter’s voice, pretending to be him.

The goal of that deepfake was to create the impression that Tendulkar and his daughter Sara had won a huge amount of money by taking part in a particular online game.

Sachin himself acknowledged the video as fraudulent and issued a warning on social media regarding these kinds of unethical behavior.

Meanwhile, Kohli is not playing in India’s current home Test series against England, therefore he is not available for the Indian team at this time. However, it was anticipated that the star batter would play in the next three Test matches after initially withdrawing from the first two due to personal issues. Kohli, who is still with his family, later withdrew from the entire five-match series, citing personal reason.

India’s T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, recently shared his feelings about not being included in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 squad. Despite his exclusion, Yadav expressed a positive outlook, especially regarding his role in the T20 format where he remains a key player for the national team.

Yadav, known for his aggressive batting style in T20 cricket, has not mirrored the same success in the One Day International (ODI) format. Over 37 ODI matches, he has amassed 773 runs at an average of 25.76, which he admits is not up to the mark. His candid reflection on his performance highlighted a mature approach to his career and selection matters.

“Why would it hurt? If I had performed better, I would have been in the Champions Trophy squad,” Yadav said during a press conference. “It’s crucial to accept the outcomes and support the team selected for the tournament. The current squad has performers who have proved their mettle in ODIs and deserve their spots.”

The explosive batsman also commented on the formidable bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, emphasizing their importance to the team’s success in international tournaments. Although Bumrah is currently sidelined with back issues and will miss the T20 series against England, Yadav is optimistic about the team’s prospects with such experienced players.

As the T20 series against England approaches, Yadav’s focus shifts to leading India with the hope of contributing significantly and proving his mettle as a leader and player. His attitude towards his omission from the Champions Trophy roster reflects a balanced perspective, focusing on personal improvement and team success in future engagements.

Gautam Gambhir trusts the captain on field: Rohit Sharma on dressing room leaks

However, during a press conference on Saturday, Ajit Agarkar announced India’s squad for the upcoming England ODIs and the 2025 Champions Trophy, reaffirming Rohit’s captaincy as he was included in the squad. The announcement took place in Mumbai and was made in the presence of Rohit.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy of Team India in Tests and ODIs is facing scrutiny following his lackluster performance in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The seasoned player was absent for the first Test, which India won in Perth, with Jasprit Bumrah stepping in as the acting captain. Upon his return from paternity leave before the second Test, things took a turn for the worse, culminating in a disappointing 1-3 series defeat.

In addition to his subpar performance, several controversies have emerged that have not aided his standing as skipper. Reports of leaks from the dressing room surfaced, and Rohit ultimately chose to withdraw from the final Test due to his struggles. Furthermore, media speculation suggested that there might be a rift between him and head coach Gautam Gambhir, raising questions about his future as captain.

During the press conference, Rohit addressed inquiries regarding his relationship with Gambhir, particularly following the dressing room leak allegations. He stated, “Both of us are very clear on what we wanted to do. I am not going to sit here and discuss what goes behind the scenes, every game tactically.”

He further emphasised, “It’s very clear in my mind. Gautam Gambhir is someone who trusts the captain on the field once we enter it. The discussions happen off the field, and when we take the field, it’s all about my decisions. That’s the kind of trust we share, and that’s how it should be.”

According to reports, Gambhir has expressed concerns about discipline within the Indian squad during the Australian series. Additionally, there are suggestions that the relationship between Gambhir and Rohit may have deteriorated, with another senior player reportedly lobbying for the captaincy position.
