India’s World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh and Pakistan bowling legend Wasim Akram have joined a host of former cricketers set to feature in the Bushfire relief match on February 8.

India’s World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh and Pakistan bowling legend Wasim Akram have joined a host of former cricketers set to feature in the Bushfire relief match on February 8.

It is a charity match to raise funds for those affected by the bushfires in Australia.

The match will be played between teams led Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne respectively. It will act as a curtain raiser to the Big Bash League final which is on the same day.

The women’s T20I between India and Australia will also be played on the same day as part of the cricket’s day of giving termed as ‘The Big Appeal’. All match profits will go to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.

Akram and Yuvraj will be joining the likes of Andrew Symonds, Michael Hussey, Brad Haddin. The match will also feature women cricketers Elyse Villani and Grace Harris and teen prodigy Phoebe Litchfield.

Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar will coach Ponting XI while West Indies legend Courtney Walsh take care of Warne XI.

In non-playing capacity, the two sides have Steve Waugh, Mel Jones and Rugby League’s Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns.

Veteran Indian cricketer Murali Vijay on Monday announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket at the age of 38. Vijay, who last represented India in the 2018 Perth Test, announced his decision over Twitter.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote that, with immense gratitude and humility, he announces his retirement from all forms of international cricket. Talking about his 16-year-long journey, he said those have been the wonderful years of his life, and it was an honour for him to represent India at the highest level of sport.

Vijay even thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), the Chennai Super Kings, and Chemplast Sanmar for giving him the opportunity. He said he is also grateful to his teammates, coaches, mentors, and support staff, and said that it has been an absolute privilege to have played with them. He also thanked them all for helping him turn his dream into reality.

The right-handed batsman also expressed gratitude to cricket fans for supporting him through the ups and downs of international sport, adding that he will cherish the moments he spent with his fans and their support, which has always been a source of motivation for him.

In the end, the player thanked his family and friends for their unconditional love and support, which have been his backbone throughout his career. He further said that he will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket and the business side of it, where he will continue to participate in different environments.

He featured in first-class and List-A cricket for Tamil Nadu late in 2019 in the Ranji Trophy. As far as professional cricket is concerned, he last turned out for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League in 2020.

India won the first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket Championship by defeating England by seven wickets at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday. Indian bowlers Shafali Verma, Mannat Kashyap and Sonam Yadav took one wicket each in an impressive bowling performance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the women’s team for achieving a historic feat. PM Modi in a tweet wrote, Congratulations to the Indian Team for a special win at the ICC U19 T20 World Cup. They have played excellent cricket and their success will inspire several upcoming cricketers. Best wishes to the team for their future endeavours, he added.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and others from the cricket fraternity also poured wishes to Indian team for an impressive win.

India registered a historic victory over England to lift the inaugural ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup on Sunday. In a video which is going viral on social platforms, the Indian women’s team is seen celebrating their title by grooving to the hit dance number Kala Chashma.

The video posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on its official Instagram handle with a caption “Winning on the field and off it. India – ICC Women’s #U19T20WorldCup Champions”. “The new Kala Chashma champions,” is being widely viewed and shared over the internet.

The video shows the women’s champions dressed in Team India blue and the champion’s medals garlanded around their necks, dancing to the popular song with killer moves and grace.

India on Sunday, defeated England by seven wickets as the Shafali Verma-led side clinched the inaugural ICC U-19 Women’s T20.

Put into bat, the England women managed to put a paltry 68 runs on the board as the Indian bowlers ran roughshod over the Barmy Army. In reply, India lost Shafali and Shweta early in the chase, however, G Trisha and Soumya Tiwari dug in to guide the team home.

The victory is being celebrated across the nation as celebs and leaders lavished praise on the young team for the title win.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a tweet, congratulated the women’s team for the “special win” for playing excellent cricket. PM Modi said that their success will inspire several upcoming cricketers.

President Droupadi Murmu, in her congratulatory tweet, heaped praised upon the young team for putting up an outstanding performance. President Murmu said the champions an inspiration for the country’s youth, especially girls, adding that the historic win has made India proud.

The BCCI has announced a hefty cash reward of Rs 5 crore for the Champion side and its support staff.

BCCI general secretary Jay Shah congratulated the Shafali Verma-led saying that the Indian team showed tremendous skill and grit to overcome the challenges and blazed their way to glory. In another tweet, Shah announced the cash reward for the victorious side.
