The newly launched platform has already posed a challenge for Twitter, putting its Chairman Elon Musk under pressure. Twitter ever since it was founded in 2006 had barely faced any competition making its mark as the only existed striving player in the industry over the years.

Threads is being positioned by Meta as an extension of Instagram, though it is a completely standalone platform with its features coinciding with that of Twitter’s and some of Instagram’s.

Instagram has a built-in audience of over two billion users, hence, Mark Zuckerberg in a strategic move to take on rival Musk and to prevent itself from facing the challenge of starting from scratch in building audience, has adopted this approach.

Here’s how to download

  1. Users just need to download the app first, available on both Google Play Store and App Store.
  2. Once downloaded, you will need your Instagram ID to log in.
  3. If already logged on to Instagram, you can directly import all your details from your Instagram account such as username, profile picture, bio, links(if any).

For verified users- after logging in to threads, you would automatically get a blue tick on your thread account, if you have one on Instagram.

Features:

  1. Users have this option to upload a series of connected tweets in the form of thread, same as Twitter.
  2. Each post limits upto 500 characters.
  3. Links, videos and pictures can be attached with the post.
  4. Not more than 10 photos per post and the video length should not be more than 5 minutes
  5. Users get to restrict who can/cannot reply to their posts.
  6. Accounts that have been blocked by the user on Instagram will automatically be blocked on threads

Reports said, some features which are on Instagram are soon to be updated on Thread such as stories option, Direct Message(DMs), close friend feature and the usage of GIFs.

Meta has now launched the app form and the website is yet to go live.

Instagram new feature: Social Media users can now display song lyrics in reels

The photo and video-sharing platform owned by Meta Platforms, Instagram, is getting a feature that will allow users to add lyrics to their reels. Instagram head at the Mark Zuckerberg-helmed social media giant, Adam Mosseri took to his Broadcast Channel to announce the update.

Adam Mosseri noted that a new feature is rolling out a way to add song lyrics when editing Instagram Reels. He added that they have seen people manually add lyrics to Reels, so he hopes that this makes it easier to use music to express oneself. He assured that they are working on more updates to get creative on Reels. He further mentioned that the feature is similar to one that is already available for Instagram Stories.

Here are the steps to add song lyrics to your Instagram Reels:

First, go to the Instagram app, followed by tapping the Reels icon at the bottom of the screen.

Then, click on the Music icon on the top of the screen and choose a song from the library or your own audio.

Next, tap on the Lyrics icon at the bottom and choose a font and a colour for the text.

Then, drag the text to the desired position and, using the slider, select the portion or part of the lyrics you want to display.

Finally, tap on the Done button and edit and share the Reel as usual.

Notably, music has become a key element in the growth of TikTok, with the platform now looking to expand its music industry links, through a new partnership with Billboard on a TikTok trending chart and even its own live music event.

Instagram stated that social media users are already manually adding song lyrics to their Reels clips, so it probably makes sense for IG to make this easier. Reports stated that the new lyrics sticker has been rolled out to all Instagram users.
