Assam floods: Situation grim as 54.5 lakh affected, death toll reaches to 107

The flood situation of Assam remained grim on Friday as the death toll kept on rising with each day passing. Reports said that the state has witnessed another seven deaths including two children so far in the last 24 hours and a search operation is still underway.

As of now, the death toll crossed the 106 mark. More than 54 lakh people have been affected due to one of the worst landslides in the state.

Reports also revealed that the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers along with their tributaries are in a spate of most of the affected areas. However, a large piece of land of the state is still underwater.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) along with other organizations working hard to rescue people. They rescued more than 3658 people throughout the state on Thursday by using 276 boats.

An official person from the NDRF team said that over 14,500 marooned people have been rescued by the team from Assam’s 12 flood-affected areas.

According to the NDRF’s assistant commandant Santosh Singh, the 1st Battalion Disaster Response Force of the NDRF speed up their rescue operation in the affected districts. He said more than 70 boats and 400 troops in the multiple affected areas have been deployed. Apart from this, additional teams from other battalions with more than 206 personnel have been airlifted to Silchar since Tuesday, Singh added

The district administrations from flood-affected areas have set up somewhere around 759 relief camps, under which more than 2.84 lakh people who have lost their home staying in it. Meanwhile, it has been reported that the districts including Sivasagar, Dhubri, the Brahmaputra, Nagaon, Kopili, and Disang are currently flowing above the danger level mark.

As far as the damage is concerned, the flood has destroyed more than 217 roads and 20 bridges in the state. Apart from this, there are reports that claimed that a crop area of 99,026 hectares and 33,17,086 animals have been affected due to the flood.

Union Minister Smriti Irani questions Rahul Gandhi’s love for Indian democracy over his boycott of the new Parliament inauguration

Union Minister Smriti Irani tore apart Rahul Gandhi’s Mohabbat Ki Dukaan campaign, questioning his love for Indian democracy and the people of India.

Irani questioned what kind of love it that massacred Sikhs(referring to the 1984-Anti-Sikh riots)? She questioned, what kind of love was that insulted the Sengol(the golden stick, which was placed in the new Parliament by Prime Minister Narendra Modi)? She said she wanted to ask him about what kind of love was it that boycotted the inauguration of the new Parliament? Irani asked him to tell her what kind of love was it which was to be silent while the film The Kerala Story was released.

She said she could not understand what kind of love is it that shook hands and hugged those people who curse India or the concept of India.

Irani adding to her attack, said, Rahul Gandhi is only defaming India outside its national boundaries. During the press conference, she listed the achievements of the Modi-ruled Centre government in the last nine years.

She said, women are more protected today and cited the success of government programs like Beti Padhao and Beti Bachao. She hailed the government for its efforts of holistic development, talking about the government scheme of Sabka Saath and Sabka Vikas.

The Minister congratulated the people of India on the inauguration of the new parliament building. She stated it was the priority of the government to ensure that every class is assured that financial allocation is done for any class or community.

She said the figures themselves told the truth. She said that the Congress party, in its hunger for power, is using external forces which are hurting the Indian democracy.

Congress urges External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to take up Indira Gandhi assassination float with Canada

The Congress on Thursday urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to take up strongly with the Canadian authorities, a float depicting the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a parade in Brampton, Canada.

When the Foreign Minister was asked at a press conference, Jaishankar said, there was an issue about space that is given to extremists, separatists, and people who advocate violence.

Jaishankar said he failed to understand why someone would do such a thing. He cited it as a clear case of vote bank politics. Condemning the incident, he said this was a clear issue of providing space to separatists, extremists, and to people who advocate violence. He further added it is not good for Canada and its relationship with India.    

The Canadian High Commissioner of India Cameron Mackay said he was shocked by the news of the event that celebrated the assassination of Indira Gandhi in his country. He further added, there is no place for hate or violence or act of glorification of violence in Canada, and he strongly condemned these activities.

Congress leader Milind Deora shared the video on Twitter, which showed a float depicting Gandhi’s assassination in a recent parade held in Brampton, Canada. He wrote, as an Indian, he was shocked seeing the video, the 5-km long parade portraying Gandhi’s killing.

Shashi Tharoor supported Deora and said he was completely right and such activities should be condemned with no politics involved.

Twitter users slamming the incident wrote it to be horrifying and painful. These things happening under the leadership of Justin Trudeau are shameful. A user said this was the force of hatred against which Rahul Gandhi has to fight. Another said, this to be really sad and the BJP government should take it up with the Canadian government.

Stuck inside 300 feet borewell, 2.5-year-old Madhya Pradesh girl dies after being rescued

On Tuesday, at around 2:45 PM, Srishti while playing in the neighbour’s field, fell inside the borewell which was lying open. The rescue operation which went on for entire two days, finally ended today, the girl was pulled out in a critical condition, who later succumbed to her injuries.

On Thursday, after rescue efforts of more than 40 hours, the 2.5-year-old girl who fell inside a 300-feet deep borewell in Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore died after was rescued in an unconscious state.

On Tuesday, at around 2:45 PM, Srishti while playing in the neighbour’s field, fell inside the borewell which was lying open. The rescue operation which went on for entire two days, finally ended today, the girl was pulled out in a critical condition, who later succumbed to her injuries.

A borewell rescue robot team had also arrived at the spot in the morning to save the girl.

The administration on Tuesday, was immediately informed after which officials rushed to the spot to undertake the rescue operation, which is in continuation since then.

The incident took place in Mungaoli Village in Sehore, MP.

As per the Sehore District Collector, Srishti was stuck at a depth of 20-feet but slid down further 50-feet as the efforts for her rescue continued. While reports said, she slid further down and wasstuck at 110-feet.

The Army, NDRF and SDRF teams were in force since Tuesday, for pulling Srishti out.

A team of experts from Rajasthan and Delhi were also called to help out in the operation to save the girl.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who belongs to the same district, had also taken stock of the situation and had directed for Srishti’s safe evacuation.

Srishti was the daughter of Rahul Kushwaha and Rani Kushwaha. Oxygen was sent down the borewell with the help of a pipe on Tuesday. Cameras were also sent inside to monitor the situation.

Ambulance along with a team of doctors were on stand-by at the spot.

Rani said, about 50 m away from the house, their neighbor Nannu Lal had dug a borewell about three months ago but it was a failed attempt and the hole was left unattended.

In a similar incident, 4 days back a 2-year-old girl in Gujarat’s Jamnagar fell inside a 200 feet-deep borewell, who was pulled out after a massive operation of 19 hours but was declared dead.
