In a hooch tragedy in Tamil Nadu, 10 individuals have lost their lives including three women and seven police officials were suspended on Sunday.
The incident is reported from two districts on northern part of the state, where people fell sick after consuming illicit liquor on Saturday night and later died.
The opposition parties in Tamil Nadu have raised an uproar over the incident, attacking the MK Stalin government charging for their laxity in dealing with the illegal trading of liquor in the state.
According to the police, on Saturday night, a cluster of fishermen from a village near Villupuram district’s Marakkanam had consumed a spurious liquor. Following which, they began falling sick and were taken to the hospitals located in the district and in neighboring region of Puducherry.
Sadly, six fishermen died within just a period of 10 hours on Sunday, Among the dead, it included a woman.
In the meantime, another such incident was reported from Chengalpattu district where a man and his wife’s mother died after consuming illegally sourced liquor.
As per reports, police carried out the investigation into the same and discovered that the illicit liquor consumed by them the man and his mother-in-law was sourced by their farm owner on the previous night of their deaths.

Meanwhile, the illicit brew supplied by the farm owner claimed lives of an elderly couple on Sunday.
The police has constituted six teams to nab the ones who have been involved in the trading and supply of these illegal liquor trading.
The Inspector General of Police (IG) North Kannan informed media saying six teams have been constituted and the police has also arrested three people involved in the incidents.
The senior police officer also said that his team his investigating to find if there was any connection between the deaths in both Villupuram and the Chengalpattu district. IG Kanan also informed that the preliminary investigation has revealed that consumed liquor was made of industrial grade methanol as one of its many components.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced compensation for the deceased families and financial aid for the ones who are in the hospital. Stalin said that action against the ones involved has already been started.
