The Chhattisgarh police on Tuesday detained Zee TV news anchor Rohit Ranjan from his residence near Delhi. This comes a day after the channel aired a misleading video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for which they apologised later on live TV.

While confirming the news, Ranjan tweeted in Hindi: बिना लोकल पुलिस को जानकारी दिए छत्तीसगढ़ पुलिस मेरे घर के बाहर मुझे अरेस्ट करने के लिए खड़ी है,क्या ये क़ानूनन सही है ( Chhattisgarh Police is standing outside at my residence to arrest me without informing the local police, is it legal?). To which Raipur police responded that there is no such rule to inform. A police team has shown you the court’s warrant of arrest. You should in fact cooperate, join in the investigation and put your defence in court, Raipur’s Twitter handle added.

After detaining the Zee TV anchor, a video of police from both Chhattisgarh and UP went viral on social media this morning. Police from Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh and BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh can be seen quarrelling over the anchor’s custody. In the short clip, it can be seen that the Chhattisgarh police tried to arrest the anchor, while locals and UP’s Ghaziabad police putting up all the possible efforts to block it.

The Ghaziabad police have now taken the Zee anchor to an unknown location to prevent his arrest by the team of Chhattisgarh police.

Meanwhile, cases have been filed against Ranjan in Congress-ruled Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh after he portrayed Gandhi’s statement on an attack on his Kerala’s Wayanad office and related it to the Udaipur tailor’s killers, where he called the attackers children.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also reacted on the same and said the way the TV channel and the anchor ran Rahul Gandhi’s statement in such a way that it seems like he was saying those who killed Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur were kids and should be forgiven.

This is not the first time that police from two states have been left squabbling over an arrest. A similar thing happened when BJP leader Tajinder Bagga was being whisked away from Delhi by Punjab Police. Haryana Police intervened and handed him back to the Delhi Police.

West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose has been warned by the Election Commission of India (ECI) not to visit Cooch Behar on April 18 and 19, since the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls will begin with a silence period on Wednesday evening.

According to those familiar with the situation in the EC, the poll body informed the governor’s office that no local program could be planned for the governor on April 19 due to the Model Code of Conduct and the election day.

The poll body added that if they had to provide local security cover for this unexpected proposed visit without a imminently known requirement, the tour would be a diversion because the district administration and police force will be completely occupied with election management on April 18 and 19.

As a result, under Section 126 of the Representation of People Act, campaigning is prohibited in Cooch Behar starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

In order to ensure a free and fair election process, the poll board has asked all district election officers and district police chiefs to make sure that all prominent individuals, campaigners, and political workers who are not local voters leave the polling area once the silence period begins.

The seven phases of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will take place between April to June. Polls will be conducted in seven phases: the first on April 19 and the seventh on June 1. On June 4, the results will be announced.

West Bengal CM Mamta Banarjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) today released its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In its manifesto, the TMC pledged to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), stop the development of a National Register of citizens and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and stop its implementation nationwide.

The manifesto was unveiled by Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien, West Bengal Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, and Amit Mitra, who is the Special Advisor to the Chief Minister. However, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was not present at the event.

As Derek O’Brien unveiled the manifesto, he said, this is what they will do when the TMC, as part of INDIA bloc, forms government.

The Citizenship Amendment Act has long been opposed by the Trinamool Congress. Five years after it was approved by Parliament, the central government finally put the CAA into effect last month.

The party led by Mamata Banerjee has also expressed resistance to the National Register of Citizens proposal, claiming that West Bengal will never adopt it.

The manifesto titled Didi’s 10 sapaths, alludes to 10 oaths made by Mamata Banerjee, popularly known as Didi.

The Mamata Banerjee-led party additionally pledges to raise the daily allowance under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to Rs 400 per day in addition to the UCC and CAA. Everyone has also been offered pucca houses by the party.

A monthly pension of Rs 1,000 for people over 60, free home delivery of 5 kg of ration for every ration card user, 10 free LPG cylinders annually for families below the poverty line, and universal healthcare coverage worth Rs 10 lakh are among the other significant commitments made.

Additionally, the Trinamool Congress has pledged to establish a price stabilization fund in order to control the cost of gasoline and LPG.

The party has assured the youth that every student will receive a monthly stipend up until the age of 25. A student credit card of Rs. 10 lakh will be awarded to those who choose to continue their education.

Mamata Banerjee accuses BJP of plotting riots on Ram Navami

The Bengal chief minister added at an election rally that the BJP will win the election by vote looting and rioting.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that there are plans being hatched to incite riots in West Bengal on the occasion of Ram Navami. Last year’s celebrations were marred by violence in the state, which lead to a massive confrontation between the Trinamool Congress and BJP.

She said the BJP will engage in rioting today. There is a prospect and possibility of rioting. The Bengal chief minister added at an election rally that the BJP will win the election by vote looting and rioting. Earlier Banerjee greeted the people of West Bengal and appealed to maintain peace during the celebrations. The BJP, however, condemned it and said that the West Bengal CM is humiliating the Indian and Sanatani culture.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has made a post on social media appealing to maintain peace, this is demeaning the festival of Ramnavami as on the other religious occasions she has given the message of peace, but here she is asking to maintain peace instead of giving the message of peace and prosperity. He added by doing this she is trying to humiliate the Indian and Sanatani culture.

Both the BJP and Trinamool Congress held Ram Navami processions across West Bengal. Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari attended one such Ram Navami procession in the New Town area of the city, while Trinamool Congress minister Arup Roy and TMC’s Howrah Lok Sabha constituency candidate Prasun Banerjee walked with Ram Navami processions in Howrah town.

Many similar processions, small and big, with youths chanting Jai Shri Ram and holding saffron flags and replicas of swords amid frenzied beating of drums, took place across West Bengal. Police and security forces are staying vigilant and the situation has remained peaceful so far.
