Tamil Nadu: Training begins for bulls ahead Pongal for Jallikattu
In a few weeks, the furious sport known as Jallikattu, also known as “Eru Thazhuvuthal” and “Mancuvirattu,” will take place.

Bull trainers in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai are preparing for the renowned “Jallikattu” celebration ahead of the Pongal festival.
More than ten bulls have been trained for the tournament by more than 20 teenagers from the Podumbu village in the Madurai district. Bulls are undergoing swimming and walking tranings.
In a few weeks, the furious sport known as Jallikattu, also known as “Eru Thazhuvuthal” and “Mancuvirattu,” will take place.
Bulls are also trained to hone their skills by digging their horns in the muddy ground, a procedure known as “Mann Kuthal.” When someone tries to grab a bull by the hump, the animal is ready to strike.
A bull owner named Kottai Swami said that since 2017, he and his friends have been training bulls in Jallikattu, and currently had more than 10 bulls. He added that they were raising ten bulls for the Jallikattu sport with the help of 20 of his friends. They give the bulls food, such as cotton seeds and tamarind, to eat. The bulls are being prepared for Mann Kuthal, swimming, and walking.
Additionally, he added that they expect that the Supreme Court will rule in favour of Jallikattu, and CM Stalin and PM Modi should support us in holding Jallikattu competition.
He also said that since 2014, he has been taking part in Jallikattu. His friends and him get together in the morning to train bulls to walk. Additionally, we offer instruction in Mann Kuthal and swimming, the bull owner said.
While everything is going on, the Tamil Nadu government has said that the Jallikattu competition, the Tamils’ heroic sport, will go place as scheduled on the upcoming Pongal holiday.
Recently, a Supreme Court Constitution Bench reserved for judgement a number of petitions that sought to overturn a Tamil Nadu statute that safeguards Jallikattu by arguing that the sport of taming bulls is a part of the State’s cultural legacy and is protected by Article 29 (1) of the Constitution.

Hindu Munnani members among 4 held for assaulting migrant workers in Tamil Nadu: Police
Members of right-wing outfit Hindu Munnani among four persons have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody for allegedly attacking migrant workers in Coimbatore city of Tamil Nadu, police said on Tuesday.

Members of right-wing outfit Hindu Munnani among four persons have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody for allegedly attacking migrant workers in Coimbatore city of Tamil Nadu, police said on Tuesday.
Coimbatore Police Commissioner V Balakrishnan told newsmen in a presser that four people, including two youths from the Hindutva outfit, Hindu Munnani, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting migrant workers on March 12 near the city’s Mahaliamman Temple.
The senior officer said that the four accused were inebriated at the time of the incident and a case against them has been registered under relevant section of the law at Variety Hall Road Police Station, adding that the men have been sent to judicial custody.
The case comes days after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, last Thursday, accused BJP leaders from North India of spreading fake news and rumors about alleged attacks on migrant labourers in the South Indian state.

Responding to questions under the ‘Ungalil Oruvan’ programme, Stalin claimed that the BJP started spreading these rumors, day after he spoke about the need for a united national-level alliance against the saffron party.
In his speech Stalin had pointed out that people from various Indian states who come here in search of employment have been living and working in Tamil Nadu for years and have never faced any discrimination or problems.
The Tamil Nadu CM had alleged that BJP members from North Indian States with “bad intentions “created “fake videos” and spread “false news” to defame Tamils, adding that plot of “fake news spreaders” is clearly visible if you notice that it was done the very next day after he called for a need for a united national-level alliance against the BJP.
Stalin said that he had spoken to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar after some videos of the alleged incidents surfaced and the state police chief clarified that no such incidents happened in Tamil Nadu, adding delegates from Bihar who visited the state to enquire about the attacks returned with full satisfaction.
Over the past few months, several unverified videos and reports emerged on social media showing migrant workers, especially from North India, being assaulted and harassed in Tamil Nadu. Subsequently, a team from Bihar led by Balamurugan IAS visited the state to take stock of the matter.
The team visited Tiruppur last week and met the district administration and police officials to know about the actions taken so far in the case. Officials of the Bihar government also interacted with Bihar-based migrant workers in Chennai on Tuesday last.
