Amidst the rise of digital arrest scams, an individual decided to prank a scammer impersonating a police officer. During a video call, the cybercriminal was unexpectedly greeted by a puppy instead of a victim.

Shared on Instagram, the video features a man responding to a call from someone dressed as a police officer, who claims to be contacting him from the Andheri East police station in Mumbai. When asked to show his face, the man humorously presents his small puppy to the camera, saying, “Yeh lijiye, sir. Aagya main camera ke saamne.”

Realising he’s been pranked, the scammer smiles and attempts to redirect the camera back to himself, saying, “Arey yeh raha main. Arey, thanedaar. Dikhraha hai? Arey nakli vardi,” while laughing. Eventually, he turns off the camera and disconnects the call.

This amusing encounter, shared widely on Instagram, had users in stitches, with one commenting, “Scammer ke saath hi scam kardia,” while another noted, “Indians are pretty talented when it comes to content.”

Many referred to the interaction as “paw patrol,” with one user cleverly stating, “Pawlice hai woh police nahi.” The lighthearted prank was so charming that even the scammer couldn’t conceal his smile, earning him the title of “pookie scammer.”

Digital arrest scams involve fraudsters impersonating law enforcement officials like CBI agents or customs officers, initiating contact through phone calls. They coax victims into switching to video calls on platforms such as WhatsApp or Skype, claiming to have a digital arrest warrant for alleged financial misconduct or legal violations.

To enhance the ruse, they may use fake police station backdrops. These scammers pretend to assist victims in clearing their names while pressuring them to transfer large sums of money to specific accounts or UPI IDs, disappearing with the funds and leaving victims vulnerable to financial loss and identity theft.
