Fighter Poster: Deepika Padukone shares first look of Akshay Oberoi as Squadron Leader Basheer Khan

Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone are working together on screen for the first time with Siddharth Anand’s film Fighter. Since it was initially revealed in 2021, the movie has generated a lot of buzz.

Character posters featuring Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan, Anil Kapoor, and Karan Singh Grover have been shared by the film’s makers in recent days, adding to the excitement among fans as the film prepares for release in a few weeks. The character poster for Akshay Oberoi from Fighter has been revealed by the makers today. In the movie, he will be seen playing the role of Squadron Leader Basheer Khan.

Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan shared the Fighter poster with Akshay Oberoi on their respective social media sites on Wednesday morning. He was referred to as Squadron Leader Basheer Khan, also known as Bash. In the poster, Akshay Oberoi is seen sporting dark shades and an Air Force suit.

The caption, which revealed more information about Akshay Oberoi’s role in Fighter, said, Squadron Leader Basheer Khan Call Sign: Bash. Unit: Air Dragons Fighter Forever. Designation: Weapon System Operator.

Karan Singh Grover, co-star of Akshay Oberoi in the film Fighter, reacted on his post, saying him Sexy boy. Fans also couldn’t stop themselves from praising the actor. A user said, wow, this is fantastic! You look great, Mr. Oberoi. Another user said, wow you are also in the movie fab…one more reason to watch it. Others also dropped fire and heart emoji in the comment section.

Siddharth Anand is the director of the upcoming aerial action film Fighter. Apart from Hritik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, Talat Aziz, Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, Sanjeeda Sheikh can be seen in the pivotal roles. The makers of the film presented Karan Singh Grover as Squadron Leader Sartaj Gill in the poster that was unveiled yesterday.

Hrithik Roshan will be seen playing the role of Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania, also known as Patty, while Deepika Padukone will play Squadron Leader Minal Rathore. In Fighter, Anil Kapoor will play Group Captain Rakesh Jai Singh, also known as Rocky. The film will be release in theaters in January 25, 2024.

Blending historical terror incidents with a fictional revenge saga, the film explores India’s covert response to cross-border terrorism through the secret project ‘Dhurandhar’.

A brutal world built around revenge and espionage

Set around the IC-814 Kandahar hijack and the 2001 Parliament attack, Dhurandhar opens with Ajay Sanyal, an Intelligence Bureau officer played by R Madhavan, who strongly opposes releasing captured terrorists. Despite his resistance, bureaucracy prevails, setting the stage for the covert mission he later leads.

The project introduces its central weapon — Humza Ali Mazari, later revealed to be Jaskirat Singh Rangil — portrayed by Ranveer Singh with ferocity and emotional depth. Dropped straight into Karachi’s dangerous Lyari district, Humza navigates a nexus of gangs, politicians, and the ISI, with the narrative also touching upon tensions between local Pakistanis and Baloch communities.

Performances that elevate the film

Akshaye Khanna nearly steals the spotlight as a feared Lyari gangster inspired by Rehman ‘Dakait’ Baloch. Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of SP Chaudhry Aslam brings an intimidating presence, while Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal leaves a lingering impact despite limited screen time.

Sara Arjun plays Yalina with conviction, and the film also features an unrecognisable Gaurav Gera in a surprise appearance.

Music, violence, and a split narrative

Shashwat Sachdev’s background score stands out, weaving classic Pakistani melodies with Indian retro hits to complement the film’s shifting tones. Viewers should be prepared for intense brutality, graphic torture scenes, and sudden shifts in narrative style — especially in a second half that feels markedly different from the first.

The episodic structure, archival footage, and mix of real and fictional characters add layers, though some may find the format distracting.
