Couple thrashed in Indore mall

A couple was allegedly beaten by policeman and his wife over in a mall in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore after an argument between the two families over the victim’s kid’s turn to play a game at the mall’s Game Zone.

According to reports, the cop’s children were playing in the Kids Zone of Indore’s Malhar Mega Mall even after their turn had ended. The victims who were waiting for their children’s turn complained to the policeman and his wife, they started arguing and abusing them and eventually resorted to assaulting the couple.

The incident took place on Sunday night and was captured on the mall’s security cameras.

Reports quoting a senior police official said the two families clashed over their children’s turn to play a game in the mall’s Kids Zone. The argument soon devolved into a fist fight and the two families started to abuse and rain blows on each other, adding that mall security had to intervene and separate the two families.

Giving details, the official said that Constable Bhupendra Parihar was visiting the mall along with his and his sister’s family where his two nieces started to play a ball game at the Kids Zone, however, one of the girls refused to come out even after their time ended.

Consequently, the victim couple, Sachin Jain—an engineer by profession—and his wife Kamini, residents of Shalimar Township, were awaiting their daughter’s turn to play the game. Kamini complained to Parihar’s sister to ask her daughter to come out, leading to an argument which escalated quickly as the men also jumped and came to blows. The women also resorted to physically assaulting each other.

The official said that both parties have lodged complaints against each other. He said that on Kamini Jain’s complaint, a case has been registered against Constable Bhupendra Parihar and others for the alleged assault at Vijay Nagar Police Station, adding that Parihar’s complaint against the Jains is also being probed.

The police are analyzing the CCTV footage of the incident, he said.

In his defense, Parihar claimed that the Jains instigated the argument and even engaged in a spat with his mother which aggravated things. The policeman alleged that the Jains used abusive language against him and his family even when the girl was taken out of the ball game zone. This, he said, angered him and lead to the assault.

Meanwhile, Kamini Jain, in her complaint blamed Parihar for the incident, claiming that the cop and another person started their family and assaulted her husband.

Kamini reportedly received minor injuries on her leg, face and neck in the scuffle.

India beat New Zealand by four wickets as KL Rahul holds nerve after Kohli’s near-miss ton

KL Rahul kept his cool in the final overs as India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the first ODI, overcoming a late wobble after Virat Kohli’s dismissal on 93.

India registered a hard-fought four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first ODI in Vadodara on Sunday, with KL Rahul holding his nerve in the final overs after Virat Kohli narrowly missed out on a landmark century.

Chasing a target of 301, India appeared firmly in control for most of the innings, led by Kohli’s composed 93 off 91 balls. The former India captain struck eight fours and a six, anchoring the chase before falling seven runs short of what would have been his 85th international hundred.

Kohli’s dismissal triggered a brief collapse, allowing New Zealand back into the contest. However, Rahul remained calm under pressure, scoring an unbeaten 29 off 21 balls. His decisive penultimate over, featuring two boundaries and a six, ensured India crossed the line with six balls to spare.

Earlier, Shubman Gill contributed 56 while Shreyas Iyer looked set for a half-century before being bowled for 49. Harshit Rana also played a crucial cameo, adding 29 off 23 balls at a tense stage of the chase.

Despite disciplined spells from the New Zealand bowlers, India reached 306 for 6 in 49 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

New Zealand innings

Batting first, New Zealand posted a competitive 300 for 8. Daryl Mitchell led the charge with a counter-attacking 84 off 71 balls after early pressure from India’s pace attack. Henry Nicholls and Devon Conway also chipped in with half-centuries to provide stability to the innings.

India’s bowlers managed to pull things back at the death, preventing the visitors from pushing beyond the 300-run mark.

Key milestone and award

During his innings, Kohli became the fastest player to reach 28,000 international runs, achieving the milestone in his 624th innings, surpassing the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Despite missing out on a century, Kohli was named Player of the Match for his decisive contribution in the chase.

The second ODI of the series will be played on January 14.
