Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra took to Twitter on Thursday and posted a complaint against the sports brand Decathlon. She shared her experience on social media about her visit to the Decathlon store at Ansal Plaza in Delhi-NCR today afternoon.
Tweeting straight from the store, Mahua called for censuring Decathlon for violating privacy laws and consumer laws. Mahua in a tweet said that she bought a pair of trousers for her father worth Rs 1500 from the store and was asked to give her phone number and email address at the billing counter.
Mahua Moitra got a text from a Supreme Court lawyer shortly after her post went viral, and she shared a screenshot of the text on her timeline. Finally put in his number & got me out of the store (with dad’s trousers), she said. However, @Decathlon_India needs to reconfigure now.
In another tweet, she also wrote that she always buys stuff from Decathlon in the UK but never faced such an issue there as they never ask for phone numbers and only ask for the email if one wants a paperless receipt. She further said Decathlon India only wants to fool customers.
While many supported Mahua for coming out in public, others criticized her for making issues just for the sake of publicity. Mahua also engaged with the users who commented on her post. Check the tweets here.
