One of the most eagerly waited films of the month has been Merry Christmas. First-time collaborators Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi came together for the film, which was directed by Sriram Raghavan of Andhadhun and Badlapur fame. But Day 1 had a slow start.

Day 2 saw the movie build up steam. Early estimates place its collection at Rs 3.50 crores, up from Day 1’s Rs 2.55 crores. The total amount collected is estimated to be Rs 6.05 crores.

On Friday, the movie’s Tamil occupancy was 26.48%, while its Hindi occupancy was 18.15%. Merry Christmas is a thriller, but not just any old thriller.

The film is about two strangers named Albert (Vijay) and Maria (Katrina Kaif) who accidentally meet paths and are pulled into a chain of bad things that happen to them. His clarification came after his name had been circulating in discussions about possible contestants for Bigg Boss 20.

The film, which also features Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi, was released on August 14. It has reportedly earned around Rs 53 crore so far, while Awarapan 2, which released on the same day, has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark.

Azmi also suggested that there may have been confusion among some viewers about Sunny Deol’s character in Batwara 1947. She said that even some people who had watched the film believed Deol was playing a Pakistani character, whereas, according to her, he plays an Indian Muslim.
