A video that emerged online showcases a young man allegedly consuming drugs on a Mumbai local train.

The Twitter user who shared the video on X had also highlighted the issue to the Mumbai police and said a group of 6 people including a girl were consuming drugs on the train. He also claimed that the group was carrying different kinds of drugs too.

Responding to the video shared by X user Adarsh, Railway Police said that they have taken the matter into consideration and launched a probe into the case.

According to Adarsh, the group got down at Nalasopara station on September 1 around 1:25 am. The video has been shared widely on the internet raising many concerns about the safety of the other passengers and indicating the failure of the Narcotic Officials (a concerned authority who looks after such matters) to control such cases.

A short clip shows a man smoking a rolled thing, a drug, while another person helps him in the process.

The Divisional Railway Manager quickly took action by instructing the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to investigate the incident. Officials are currently working to uncover the identities of those involved in the suspected drug use and take appropriate measures.

According to a senior official from Western Railway, a lookout notice has been issued to all RPF and Government Railway Police posts to keep an eye out for some individuals who were reportedly seen in the luggage compartment of a local train. If they are found in railway areas, appropriate action will be taken against them.

Citizen vigilance and social media are crucial in maintaining the safety and security of public transportation, as demonstrated by this incident. The railway authorities want anyone with more information to come forward and help with their investigation.

Another official stated that the incident is a reminder of the shared obligation to uphold public spaces’ integrity and ensure commuters’ safety.
