The highly awaited second season of Special Ops is finally set to arrive. Featuring critically acclaimed actor Kay Kay Menon reprising his iconic role as Himmat Singh, the action-thriller web series will now premiere on July 18, 2025, exclusively on Jio Hotstar. Originally planned for a July 11 release, the makers have delayed the premiere by a week, confirming that all episodes will drop simultaneously, dismissing the strategy of splitting content into two parts as seen in other shows.

Focus shifts to cyber crime and artificial intelligence

This season, Special Ops delves into the realm of cyber crime and artificial intelligence, offering a fresh narrative direction. While the overarching theme remains cyber threats, the story also highlights how traditional intelligence officers navigate this evolving digital landscape.

Kay Kay Menon, speaking about his character and the plot, revealed that both Himmat Singh and Vinay Pathak’s character are not well-versed in the cyber world. “That’s why they take the help of a technical expert,” he explained, adding that even he, as an actor, found the technical jargon challenging to grasp during filming.

Tahir Raj Bhasin joins the cast as the new antagonist

Replacing the previous season’s villain played by Sajjad Delafrooz, Tahir Raj Bhasin steps in as the new antagonist. Known for his performance in Mardaani, Tahir expressed his excitement about joining the Special Ops franchise, citing Kay Kay Menon and director Neeraj Pandey as key reasons for signing on. “There are very few actors who can portray both positive and negative characters so powerfully,” Tahir said, referencing Menon’s roles in films like Shaurya and Haider.

Returning and new cast members

The upcoming season will not only see the return of Kay Kay Menon, Vinay Pathak, and Karan Tacker, but will also feature Gautami Kapoor, Muzamil Ibrahim, Saiyami Kher, and Parmeet Sethi, adding to the ensemble cast. This season follows the original Special Ops series released during the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent prequel Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story.

With its gripping storyline, complex characters, and a renewed focus on digital-age espionage, Special Ops 2 promises to continue the legacy of one of India’s most successful thriller franchises.
