Two women, Ellie Gibson and Helen Thorn made it to the Guinness World Records (GWR) after they performed a comedy gig at the base camp of Mount Everest. Reportedly, both of them performed the gig not just to create a record but also to raise funds for an important cause. 

Sharing the video, Guinnesses World Records (GWR) mentioned that Ellie Gibson and Helen Thorn are better known as comedy duo, The Scummy Mummies. The duo went to the Everest Base Camp and performed a 32 minute comedy set to an audience of over 30 unsuspecting people. 

The video starts with Gibson and Thorn sharing why they are keen on creating the record. They revealed that it is for an organization that carries out research to find the reasons behind premature births. In the video, the women further document their journey of visiting Nepal and then going to Mount Everest Base Camp. It also shows them performing their gig in front of a few people in freezing temperatures.

The video capturing this incredible record was shared on YouTube by Guinness World Records (GWR) a day ago. Since then, the now viral video has gained more than ten thousand views and the numbers are still increasing. Many social media users appreciated the unusual record created by the duo. 

A YouTube user expressed that he simply loves their video style adding that they are refreshing and creative. Another social media user lauded that this is really thinking way outside the box. He added that he loved the video. Another exclaimed that this is the most unexpected record ever.

According to reports, since 2013, the duo Ellie Gibson and Helen Thorn have performed in multiple stand-up comedy gigs across the world. Four months after they performed their high-altitude comedy gig, the Guinness World Records verified Gibson and horn’s record for the title of highest altitude stand-up comedy gig on land.

The medal and trophy presentation was attended by U.S. President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Leaders from fellow tournament co-hosts Canada and Mexico were also present for the final.

Trump and Infantino were booed by sections of the crowd during the trophy ceremony.

Star-studded halftime show grabs attention

Apart from the football action, the World Cup final also featured a high-profile halftime entertainment show inspired by the Super Bowl format.

The performance included Shakira, Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber and Burna Boy, with the show curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

The Telugu film industry emerged as one of the standout performers at the 72nd National Film Awards, securing a total of nine honours for films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1 and December 31, 2024.

Leading the tally was director Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, which received the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The film also earned Best Production Design for Nitin Zihani Choudhary, whose work brought to life the contrasting worlds of Kasi, Shambala and the futuristic Complex.

Pushpa 2 earns screenplay and costume design honours

Director Sukumar’s blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule added two National Awards to its achievements. Sukumar won Best Original Screenplay, while costume designers Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma were honoured with the Best Costume Design award for their work on the film.

The film was among the biggest commercial successes of 2024 and was recognised for its storytelling and visual presentation.

Lucky Baskhar and 35-Chinna Katha Kaadu receive national recognition

Director Venky Atluri received the Best Dialogue Writer award for Lucky Baskhar, starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role.

Meanwhile, 35-Chinna Katha Kaadu, directed by Nanda Kishore Emani, was named Best Children’s Film. Child actor Arundev was honoured as Best Child Artist, sharing the award with Riddhiman Banerjee, Topomoy Deb, Gitashree Chakraborty (for Onko Ki Kothin) and Athish S. Shetty (for Mithya).

Committee Kurrollu wins Best Telugu Film

Debut director Yadhu Vamsi’s Committee Kurrollu was recognised as the Best Telugu Film at the awards. The nostalgic drama, produced by Niharika Konidela, also earned P. Ravi Kumar the Best Make-Up Artist award.

Following the announcement, the teams behind the award-winning films expressed their gratitude to the National Film Awards jury and audiences through social media posts celebrating the recognition.

India have made a late change to their squad for the third and final ODI against England after all-rounder Washington Sundar was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Saturday that left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Harsh Dubey has been added to the squad for the series decider at Lord’s.

Washington Sundar ruled out with hamstring injury

Sundar sustained a right hamstring injury during the second ODI against England at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The injury has forced him to miss Sunday’s decisive encounter.

According to the BCCI, the all-rounder will undergo scans and seek specialist medical opinion to determine the next course of treatment.

His absence comes as a setback for India ahead of the final ODI, with the three-match series level after England won the second match.

Harsh Dubey earns another opportunity

Harsh Dubey replaces Sundar in the Indian squad after making his ODI debut against Afghanistan in Dharamshala in June, where he returned figures of 3/47.

The young all-rounder was also part of the India A side that secured a 1-0 red-ball series victory in Sri Lanka. During the tour, he claimed four wickets and contributed scores of 30 and 29 with the bat.

Dubey joins India’s spin department alongside Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav for the Lord’s clash.

Zimbabwe assignment after England series

Following the conclusion of the England ODI series, Dubey will travel to Zimbabwe for India’s three-match series beginning on July 23 in Harare. The remaining matches are scheduled for July 25 and July 26 at the Harare Sports Club.
