YouTuber Akash Sagar booked for chanting religious slogans inside Meghalaya church

As a result of the complaint, Meghalaya Police registered an FIR against Akash Sagar and his companions, charging them with trespassing, disturbing public order, and insulting religious sentiments.

An FIR has been filed in Meghalaya against a YouTuber and social media influencer, Akash Sagar, after a video featuring him and two associates chanting religious slogans in a church, went viral. The controversy arose when the influencer shared the video on his Instagram account, which has over 1.5 million followers.

The footage captures Akash entering the Church of Epiphany in Mawlynnong, situated in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. It has been widely circulated on various platforms and depicts Akash engaging in behavior deemed disrespectful toward the church’s sanctity, including chanting slogans like “Jai Shri Ram.”

In the video, Akash and his friends enter the church’s altar area, shout slogans, and mockingly modify Christian hymns. A Shillong-based activist subsequently filed a police complaint at the Laitumkhrah Police Station, describing the act as premeditated and intentional. The activist claimed that the influencer’s actions were not merely provocative but aimed at insulting the Christian community and inciting communal tensions in a region recognized for its religious diversity and harmony.

As a result of the complaint, Meghalaya Police registered an FIR against Akash Sagar and his companions, charging them with trespassing, disturbing public order, and insulting religious sentiments.

In reaction to the FIR, Akash Sagar took to social media to refute the claims. In a now-deleted post, he questioned the validity of the accusations, asking, “For saying Jai Shree Ram?” He also posted screenshots of news articles reporting the FIR and accused his detractors of behaving like “traitors.”

The influencer sought to defend his actions by referencing a Karnataka High Court ruling in a different case, which had dismissed charges against individuals accused of chanting religious slogans inside a mosque.

On Thursday, a man entered the Mawlynnong village church and shouted “Jai Shri Ram,” subsequently posting the incident on social media, an official told reporters.

East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtynger informed the media, “A case has been registered at the Pynursla police station against a person named Akash Sagar following a complaint.” He added that an investigation is underway and efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect.

Social activist Angela Rangad lodged a police complaint on Thursday, calling for legal action against the individual.

“Sagar intentionally and premeditatedly trespassed into the altar area to shout non-Christian songs. This act was aimed at creating communal discord and insulted the minority culture, violating the constitutional rights of religious freedom,” Rangad stated.

The Central Puja Committee (CPC), a prominent Hindu organisation in the state, has condemned the behavior.

“We express our deep concern over the video circulating on social media that outrages and violates the religious sentiments of the people in this peaceful state. We condemn the actions of this individual and urge the police to take strict and exemplary measures against him in accordance with the law,” said CPC president Naba Bhattacharjee.

Hardik Pandya calls selflessness his biggest USP after match-winning knock vs South Africa

Hardik Pandya’s blistering half-century and his emphasis on team-first cricket shaped India’s dominant win over South Africa in the first T20I in Cuttack.

Hardik Pandya delivered a clinical all-round performance as India secured a dominant win over South Africa in the first T20I in Cuttack. His unbeaten 59 off just 28 balls not only revived India’s innings but also earned him the Player of the Match award. Speaking after the victory, Pandya said his ability to put the team’s needs above everything else remains his strongest asset.

Pandya reflects on his explosive knock and mindset

Walking in at a tense moment, Pandya counterattacked with calculated aggression, helping India post 175/6 — a total that eventually proved far beyond South Africa’s reach. He said adapting to the pitch quickly and trusting his game was key.

“I had to back my shots. I realised the wicket had a bit of spice. It was more about timing the ball, not breaking the ball,” Pandya said. He added that he was satisfied with how he paced his innings.

Pandya, who has spent the past several months working on his fitness, described the performance as personally rewarding. “These last 50 days, being away from loved ones, being at NCA, making sure that all these things are covered… it was satisfying when the results come like this,” he said.

‘What India wants, not what Hardik Pandya wants’

Pandya stressed that his biggest strength lies in being flexible and team-centric.
“As a cricketer, I have never been fussy about what roles I have. It doesn’t matter what Hardik Pandya wants, it is about what India wants. That is my biggest USP and that is what has helped me,” he stated.

He also explained the approach behind attacking spinner Keshav Maharaj, saying he simply capitalised when the ball entered his hitting zone.

India dominate with ball to seal 1-0 lead

India’s total, built by crucial contributions from Tilak Varma (26), Axar Patel (23) and Pandya’s late flourish, proved more than enough. Lungi Ngidi picked three wickets for South Africa, while Lutho Sipamla claimed two.

South Africa faltered early in the chase and were bowled out for 74 in 12.3 overs, with Dewald Brevis offering the only brief resistance. India’s bowlers — Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel — all picked two wickets each, while Pandya and Shivam Dube took one apiece.

With leadership presence and batting brilliance, Pandya played a defining role in giving India a 1-0 advantage in the five-match series.

Starlink has clarified that the India pricing briefly visible on its website on Monday was the result of a configuration error, stressing that the figures were only dummy data and not the final cost for Indian customers.

Starlink fixes website error after India pricing appears briefly

The satellite-based internet service displayed monthly pricing of ₹8,600 and a hardware kit cost of ₹34,000 before the company removed the information. Starlink said the numbers were unintentionally visible due to a glitch and do not represent its official India pricing.

Lauren Dreyer, Starlink’s Vice President and Senior Director of Business Operations at SpaceX, said in a post on X that the India website is not yet live and that service pricing has not been announced. She reiterated that Starlink is currently not accepting orders from customers in India.

Dreyer added that teams are working to secure final government approvals to begin services in India, and the website will go live only after this process is completed.

Maharashtra signs LoI with Starlink for satellite-based connectivity

Even as commercial rollout details remain pending, Starlink’s India preparations appear to be moving ahead. Recent hiring activity in Bengaluru indicates strengthening operations, with roles announced across payments, accounting, treasury and taxation.

Separately, the Maharashtra government has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited to deploy satellite-based internet services for government institutions and underserved districts including Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Dharashiv and Washim.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the initiative marks Maharashtra as the first Indian state to formally collaborate with Starlink for remote connectivity solutions.
